| tiasmom's Full Review: EstÉE Lauder Take It Away Total Makeup Remo... |
Normally I would never spend as much for beauty products as I did on the Estee Lauder Take it Away Total Makeup Remover, but I had a nice sum of gift money and decided to splurge. For a 6.7 oz bottle, it costs $18.50.
I had read about the E.L. line and wanted to try some of the products. There is also a nice display in our base exchange (BX) store which I was always passing by to get to the less expensive brands.
Estee Lauder Take it Away comes in a snazzy green bottle as all E.L. products do. It has a pump top and gold trim as well. To use it and read the ingredients-which mostly consists of chemicals I can’t pronounce-I believe you pay highly for packaging. It claims to be for all skin types, but does contain fragrance. The scent, which remains with you, is not pleasant. It reminds me vaguely of insect repellant. The packaging says that it is a crème-gel formula and that’s exactly what it’s like. It is a white lotion which immediately absorbs and turns gel-like.
It’s for the removal of face, lip and eye makeup, even those which are waterproof and long-wearing. Contact lens wearers are supposed to be able to safely use the product which is ophthomologist-tested. I’m a contact lens wearer and I’m afraid to try this when wearing contacts to remove eye makeup. I’m just not comfortable with the idea of using a cream which could damage my lenses. I prefer to use Maybelline's oil-free liquid remover for that. But it works great when my lenses are out and I use it on a cotton ball.
To remove facial makeup, rub into skin and rinse off. It’s quick and simple. If I’m in a rush and just want to remove and retouch some makeup, I tissue it off rather than rinse.
Bottom Line: My feeling is that the E.L cleanser will work just as well without the remover. In fact, when I use the cleanser, I usually skip the makeup removal step. After all, the cleanser claims to thoroughly remove makeup by itself. One plus is that the remover is not at all drying. When using it, I find I have to use a fairly large amount and reapply it often since it’s not creamy enough to do any real good otherwise. I don’t seem to be running out of it all that quickly, but if I used it daily, it would not last long. Normally if I’m buying makeup remover cream, it’s something like Pond’s Cold Cream. Trust me, the results with a product costing $2.00 will be no less satisfactory than these products. If you have lots of money, try it. If not, you won’t be missing much. That’s not to say it isn’t a good product, just that it seems to be overestimated, in my opinion.
