Pros: Bagless and detachable hose

Cons: Spinning brush won't stop spinning for barefloors On/Off Swtich is making the handle burning hot

The Bottom Line: Don't buy this without saving your receipt for the entire one year warranty period. (who REALLY does that?) Also, my sister is disappointed with hers too.

My husband purchased this vacuum for me for Xmas 2005 and at first it ran great (don't they all?). Then the handle started heating up behind the on/off switch. It got really hot! At first I tried to avoid holding it there (kinda hard since it IS the handle) but then yesterday I was vacuuming and it actually burnt my hand it got so hot. Every time I use it it gets hotter and hotter! I afraid it is going to catch on fire one of these times!!!!! It's certainly not right. I contacted the company and they said it was past the one-year warranty period (I don't think it is since it was a Xmas gift last year) and that I should take it to a repair shop. Not exactly very helpful when you have a product that I really feel should be recalled as it's not at all safe.

The other problem I have with this vacuum... It has a spinning brush but when I turn it off for bare floors (we have tile and used to have hard wood), the brush won't turn off. Not so good as it slung the dirt all over my floor! Very frustrating. Thats when the detachable hose comes in handy.

The things I did like about this vacuum: the detachable hose and the bagless vacuum. Love that bagless system since I hate fooling around with those bags and inevitably I always forget what kind of bag to buy at the store, so I don't change the bags as often as I should. But overall, I'm really not impressed after using it. My Kennmore was MUCH better and I really don't know why my husband got me this when our Kennmore worked really good (and was a much better quality machine, plus layed flat to clean under beds). But, alas, my Kennmore is gone and I'm stuck with this hot-handled machine. He got it at Costco, so I think I might be able to return it there...?? I sure hope so.

This is my two-cents. Had Eureka been more supportive with their customer service I would probably have written how supportive they were after this problem, but a defective product is just tough luck after one-year. We don't have our receipt to PROVE we bought it for xmas 2005. Buyer beware... Eureka isn't all it used to be.
