| friskycelery's Full Review: Extended Stay America - Wilmington |
When I travel, whether for business or pleasure, I really don’t want to eat every meal in a restaurant, neither my wallet not my waistline can afford it. And I kind of like to have a place to sit and read or watch TV other than on the bed. Extended Stay America fulfills those requirements in a very economical manner.
Extended Stay America bills itself as the accommodations for the business traveler. Each room is set up like a small studio apartment, with one or two beds, a table, a recliner, and a kitchenette. The kitchenette has a sink, full size refrigerator with freezer, a microwave, and a two burner range top. There are also plates, glasses, silverware, and a couple of pots. It isn’t a gourmet kitchen set up, but it is fine for heating up Lean Cuisine and keeping the beer cold.
These are not luxury rooms. Forget the little bottles of shampoo, the mints on your pillow, the complimentary paper shoved under your door. If you are staying by the week, your room gets cleaned weekly, and you get fresh towels twice a week. If you are paying by the night, your room is leaned daily, and you get fresh towels daily. The chambermaid will not do your dishes.
There is no front desk clerk on duty after 11 pm, and the doors are locked. Your room key, however, will open the
main lobby door.
Most people who stay here are people on long term assignments. This is not the place for conventioneers who hoot and holler all night. And that’s probably a good thing, because my main quibble with this property is that there wasn’t much sound insulation between rooms. I heard alarm clocks going off around me - luckily at about the same time my alarm clock was going off.
This particular property is located in an area of shopping malls, and there is a Wal-Mart super center right behind the hotel, making food shopping easy. The front desk personnel were friendly and efficient.
Extended Stay America is a fine value for the money. It is not as nice as the Residence Inn, but it is not as expensive either. If you are looking for clean, basic accommodations that include kitchen facilities, this may just be the spot for you.
