| MiamiPrncess's Full Review: Farmhouse Christmas Books |
I have to admit, until this year I had never heard of Gooseberry Patch. I had no clue what the company was all about, but then a friend online told me how she absolutely loved their things, and I became curious. I wandered around the Gooseberry Patch website and found so many cute and inexpensive items that I knew I had to buy a few. Barnes and Noble has had no shipping costs lately and the Gooseberry Patch books are there for a great price. I now have three of their books and I highly recommend each and every one of them! If you've never checked out anything from Gooseberry Patch, I suggest you go to Barnes and Noble and pick up a few of the books. One of the books that I bought just recently, is the Farmhouse Christmas. All Gooseberry Patch books consist of recipes, and crafts collected from people all over the United States. Beside the title of each recipe you will find the name of it's contributor and where they are from.
The Farmhouse Christmas book is 244 pages long and stuffed to the spiral binder with great recipes, crafts, and inspirational quotes. This book is broken up into 9 chapters. The names of these chapters are as follows:
1. Farmhouse Breakfasts
The breakfast chapter is approximately 24 pages long and consists of all sorts of great country breakfast recipes. Can't you just imagine the new Christmas tradition you could start with an old fashioned breakfast, with Baked Peach Pancakes, Old Fashioned Russian Tea and Old Fashioned Baked Eggs?
2. Home~Style Beginnings
This section of the book is about 34 pages long. This section is filled with all those wonderful things we love to snack on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day as well as some great new additions to your meals. Some of the recipes included in this sections are Sour Cream Potato Salad, Garlic Dip and Brown Sugar Ham Balls.
3. Fireside Soups and Breads
This chapter is about 26 pages in length. What could be better than coming in from cutting down a Christmas tree to the smell of fresh baked breads and soups?
4. Cozy Kitchen Suppers
This section of the book is about 30 pages. Here you will find some great choices for the main course of any holiday meal.
5. Homemade Desserts
This chapter is about 30 pages long as well. This is one of the best parts about holidays, DESSERTS! Recipes include Snickerdoodles, Hard Tac Candy Treats, and Peanut Butter Fudge! MMMMM
6. Holiday Trimmings
This section is approximately 20 pages and consist of all the crafty things you could do to decorate a great country style home. All the crafts are pretty easy to do and would be great for a family to do together. This section also gives many ideas for inexpensive yet beautiful gifts.
7. Christmas Past
In this section, the great ones from Gooseberry Patch allowed people to give their favorite Christmas memories. I think a lot could be learned from this section. You could possibly find some new traditions to start from other people's memories.
8. Holiday Magic for Kids
This part of the book is about 14 pages long. All too often people are in such a hurry to get their shopping done and preparing that they forget about what Christmas is all about. This part of the book gives some great crafting ideas to share with your family. It includes items such as Peanut Butter Play Dough, Ice Cream Ornaments, and Snowman Christmas Treat Pots.
And the last chapter of the Farmhouse Christmas book is.....
9. Homespun Handiworks
This section is also filled with great crafting projects suitable for decorating your home or giving as gifts.
This book is definitely for people who take the time at Christmas to make gifts filled with love and meaning. If you're someone without time, you may not want to pick up this book! I've enjoyed every page I have read and can't wait to start attempting some of the projects. What I really like most about the recipes is that I don't have to live near some fancy stores to pick up the groceries required to make the items. Most of the recipes are quick and simple too! This is great for the person like me that may not be the greatest cook in the world. If you are one of those people that don't have the time to do crafts and cooking, maybe you could pick up the book to give as a Christmas gift.
