| rachellesims's Full Review: Fisher Price Healthy Care High Chair |
I researched high chairs for what seemed Forever! I was all set to go with another brand, when I discovered at the last moment that it had a CLOTH seat cover! (Who puts cloth on a highchair :( ) So, this was my second choice.
I must say, I am very pleased that I ended up buying this one. Here are some basics;
1) Vinyl seat cover that can be removed (fairly easily) for cleaning.
2) Five point harness. I personally think this is kind of overkill for safety, but it's nice to have- although the straps CAN get food on them if baby isn't thoroughly covered.
3) A "bar" in the middle for in-between babies legs. This is attached to the highchair, so even when the tray is off, the bar remains!
4) Different positions for the tray- closer to baby or further from baby! Also, several height positions. From pretty low to adequate when I stand (I'm 5' 4")
5) A tray within a tray. The inside, compartmentalized tray pops out (with a little effort at first) to prepare babies food, and then pop into the dishwasher afterwards. This still leaves the "main" tray in front of baby to hold blocks/toys while you finish up.
6) Can fold up for storage. Took me about 2 or 3 days before I got this down to a science, but after you figure out the "kinks" it's easy. While I won't say it folds compact, it does take up less room once folded. Realistically, it's about 2 x 3 when folded.
7) It's fairly decent to look at. It is a dark/light checked pattern with a little animal in the center. There is a ruffle around the sides, which looks cute, but I can forsee this as a food collector!
8) Has reclining positions. While I don't know why you would want this when feeding (choking hazard) I do recline her a bit when she's just sitting in there playing.
9) Last, but not least, it is sturdy. It's not wobbly, or "chintzy" feeling. Very solid.
Okay, now here's what I don't like; (UPDATED CONS)
1) They have a VERY STUPID side holder for two jars of baby food. All I do is knock it into things. I hated it, hated it, hated it. I mentioned it to my husband this evening and he said "oh, no problem." He went over to it, pull up and out, and took the thing off! Yeah! But now I have to store it. Oh, well. At least it's not on the high chair now :)
2) No castors. While I can slide it around fairly easily, castors would be nice so I didn't worry about my pergo flooring.
3) You remove the tray by either pushing in on two bars on the side, or one handed by pushing on a section on the middle front. I find the one handed release difficult. I just can't seem to get it. My husband has no problem with the one hand release. I usually always use the two hand, which is much easier for me.
Overall, I'm pleased with the highchair. She appears comfortable in it, and happy, which is the most important. She loves to play with her blocks when sitting in it because she's close to my height level, and can check me out when I'm busy in the kitchen. The pros by far outweigh the cons!
