Believe it or not, the gifts are already beginning to roll in for my youngest son who will be three at the end of August. A large box full of items for my children arrived from their grandparents who live 400 miles away and don’t get to see their little darlings often enough. Included in this package was an adorable new product from Fisher-Price called the Little People Dump Truck.
~Love Those Little People~
The Little People Dump Truck is a welcome addition to our ever growing collection of Little People sets. The truck is about 6-8 inches long and stands about 8 inches high. It is bright yellow with an orange bed and orange accents. Behind the cab of the truck is a chunky blue handle that aids your child with pushing the truck.
Included with the truck are two brown plastic “boulders” and one “Driver.” The Driver is decked out in jeans, white T-shirt and matching orange hard hat. He fits on a raised peg in the cab of the truck and is interchangeable with other Little People sets.
The two boulders are your basic boulders that are a bout 4 inches in diameter and made of plastic. If you have any other Fisher-Price play sets such as the castle or other construction sets, you have likely seen these boulders before.
~Ready, Set, ACTION!~
What makes the Little People Dump Truck different from other trucks you may find are the sound and action effects. This clever little truck sounds like the trucks that your children love to watch working at job sites. For the sound effects, you will need 2 “AA” batteries, which are included in the truck. The instructions recommend replacing them right away, but we did not and have had no trouble.
To play the sounds effects, you will need to take Driver and push him onto the cab of the truck. Once he is pressed, you will hear one of three sounds:
Idling truck motor
Back up beeping
Hydraulic Lift
These sounds usually will sound in the same order, but only one at a time. The sounds are not very loud and I don’t find them bothersome at all.
Not only will the truck make noise when you sit Driver down, but it will also dump the boulders out of the back. This will happen each time the Driver sits, unless your child leaves the back down. The sounds will happen regardless of the back’s position.
~WAIT! That’s Not All!~
As if that weren’t fun enough, but this truck does have another trick up its sleeve! When your child rolls the truck, the back and the cab will bounce, just like a real truck. There is no sound effect, unless you have the boulders in the back, but there is definitely bounce.
~My Little Person Loves It!~
My son has had this truck for about a week and still seems to enjoy it. At almost three, he is just beginning to really interact with his Little People sets. This truck has been a fun outlet for his play and I can tell that it will continue to see lots of use. The Little People Dump Truck rolls very easily on both carpeting and hard flooring and has easily withstood some tossing around as well.
The recommended ages for the Little People Dump Truck is 1 and up. At the website I found the recommendation as 1-5 years. That’s another thing to love about this truck, it can be a part of your toy rotation for many years and still have a lot of play appeal for toddlers and preschoolers.
Fisher-Price also makes a cement mixer that matches the dump truck. For the price of $9.99 I’m sure we will be adding the mixer to our collection since the dump truck has proved to be such a hit.
