We bought my 2-year-old son three Rescue Heroes and a Rescue Heroes playset for Christmas. Ooops! I mean Santa Claus brought these toys for my little boy.
Cliff Hanger, along with 2 of his Rescue Heroes buddies, were hanging out under the tree waiting to be played with. My son was immediately excited about his cool new boy toys. It was his first introduction into the world of boys' action figures; and he was instantly hooked.
What do you get?
Cliff Hanger comes with a nifty set of hang-gliding-type wings that can be unfolded with a quick punch of a button. The wings also come equipped with mechanical pincers (which can easily pick up the killer whale that came with the Rescue Hero playset...how convenient!). The pincers can pick up any object with the tap of another button.
Very cool. Very slick. And very brightly colored. Although not my son's favorite Rescue Hero of the three he received (that honor goes to the Firefighter Rescue Hero), he loves that Cliff Hanger can fly! Just like a superhero.
So, yes, it is played with. Yes, it is loved.
The Problems
I have two negatives for this particular Rescue Hero:
1. Either my husband or I have to help with putting the Cliff Hanger into his nifty flying apparatus. It is too difficult for my son to handle. Even I find myself annoyed by the trickiness of sliding Cliff Hanger into place so the wings fan out behind him appropriately.
2. The button that closes the mechanical pincers is located on the inside of the pincers! It would have been more practical to place this button on the outside on the pincers, so that you can effectively close the pincers around whatever you want to pick up. I think the designers wanted the pincers to close on contact with whatever object you wanted to pick up...but it doesn't work that way at all, unless you push down hard on the object you want to pick up.
Conclusion
Other than those 2 minor complaints, my son LOVES all of his Rescue Heroes. He plays with them every day, and has since he got them. He also fantasizes daily on receiving more Rescue Heroes stuff to add to his small collection. This is the ultimate set of toys for your 2-to-5-year-old boy.
