| gardengnome's Full Review: Four Queens Casino and Hotel |
We recently spent 10 days in Las Vegas and once again turned to our favourite place to stay, the Four Queens Hotel & Casino located in the old downtown of Las Vegas. The Four Queens is at 202 Fremont Steet across the only street with traffic (S Casino Central Blvd) running through the Fremont Steet Experience from the Golden Nugget. On the same side as the Four Queens on the other corner is the Fremont and across the road forming the fourth corner is Binion's. Signature neon crowns light up the corners of the casino.
There are a total of 690 rooms including 45 suits in the north and south towers. Our room was on the fifth floor of the south tower for this trip. The view consisted of the band shell between the Four Queens and Fitzgeralds, a portion of the light canopy for the Fremont Street Experience (FSE), a bit of the side street, a bit of the Fremont, some of the Four Queens rooftops and a bit of the wide walk way comprising the Fremont Street Experience. In fairness the view is not all that important when staying in Las Vegas. One thing I should point out is the rooms in downtown Las Vegas are not quiet at night time at least between the hours of 8 pm and 12 am. Again these are hours you tend to be doing something else besides lounging in your room. There is live entertainment including the FSE shows that run on the hour starting at 9 pm until midnight so this noise does carry to the room.
The rooms at the Four Queens are nicely decorated, comfortable and most important clean. Entry is by key card and there is a privacy setting as well as a chain. An optional door tag can be used if you want the room made up early or wish to be not disturbed. The housekeeping staff is very accomodating as well. Our room had two queen size beds that were quite comfortable. There was ample storage for clothes. The television was a flat screen with a nice, sharp picture. The bathroom was small but adequate. A blow dryer, coffee maker and iron are included with the room for use during your stay. Wi-Fi is available but at $8.95 per day that is expensive internet. I used my iPod Touch at the near-by Krispykeme for free. One thing that is not included with most rooms is an in room safe. This is rather disappointing because most people don't want to carry things like passports, extra money and other small valuables on them at all times during their stay. The Four Queens does offer the option to store these types of items in their safe on the main level. All in all the rooms are inexpensive at $69 weekdays and $89 weekends but if you qualify for casino rate which we did it went down to $29 weekdays and $49 weekends. We also ended up getting most of our room charges comped including some of our meals.
There are three full service restaurants, two fast food restaurants and three cocktail lounges. Hugo's Cellar is the high end restaurant well worth going to for their wonderful food, atmosphere and service. Magnolia's Veranda offers home style cooking with a bit of a flare. Their prices are excellent and they offer discounts for those with a player's card. Pictures of some of these meal choices along with detailed write-ups can be found on my cooking blog at momskitchencooking.blogspot.com if you are interested. A must stop at is the Chicago Brewery Company at the Four Queens not only for it's micro brew but for their deep dish pizza. Other food options are just steps away outside of the Four Queens.
The gaming floor has 1,025 slot machines, 27 gaming tables, a keno parlor and a sports book. The gaming floor is bright and cheery with a lot of action and noise from slot machines. The slot machines include penny slots with ticket-out technology so you don't have to carry heavy buckets of coin. Drink service to the gaming floor is quite friendly and fast. Large sliding doors on both ends facing Fremont Street as well as central doors allow for good traffic flow. The only thing I really don't care for is when coming in either end sliding doors between 9 am and about midnight there are these folks promising you a lot of free gifts if you sign-up to do a tour. They tell you it will take an hour and a half. In reality it took our friends from 9 am to just after 3 pm! While they did get their free gifts they were more than a little annoyed that the tour took well over the hour and a half more like almost 6 1/2 hours. This is one aspect I would love to see gone! The gaming floor has one large restroom divided into men and women. The facilities are clean and bright, handicap accessible.
All things considered we greatly enjoyed our stay at the Four Queens. We would highly recommend this casino/hotel to all our friends and family. There is so much to see and do on the FSE using the Four Queens as your base. The prices are great too. So do give it a try if you for your next visit to Las Vegas.
