Ok so what the heck is a working Howitzer doing in my living room? Well I'm not sure about you all, but the Howitzer just looks like a tank on wheels. However I am corrected whenever I do call it a tank so don't make the same mistake I did.
To go along with the GI Joe Motorized Helicopter, my kids also received the G.I. Joe Attack Howitzer that is also motorized just like the chopper. The chopper can't fly on it's own, but the Howitzer can move on it's own. Pretty cool huh?
G.I. Joe Attack Howitzer
The Attack Howitzer has many working parts. It's shaped much like the same way as a tank is shaped except the Howitzer has 3 wheels on each side. The Howitzer is 19 inches long and 5 inches high. It has an 8 inch cannon on top that actually shoots out ammo, but we'll get to that in a bit.
On top of the Howitzer where the cannon is located there are levers and buttons and even man holes for 3 inch action figures to fit in. Too bad Fun Rise forgot to include action figures. There are also 2 machine guns for your action figures to fire when they are standing inside the man holes. The Howitzer comes with 4 foam rockets that are about 3 inches long and an inch thick and to store them on the Howitzer you just simply need to place them into one of the four holes designed just for them.
There are 2 levers in the back of the Howitzer. One lever is to make it move forward and reverse and the other lever is to make the turret (cannon) rotate left or right. The turret can only move 90 degrees in each direction, it cannot do a full 360 degrees circle around. This is good for when the bad guys you want to shoot at come up on your sides. You can just move the turret that way, aim and fire away. The turret can also move up and down a few inches but this has to be done manually.
There is one fire button located between the 2 levers. This is used to fire the ammo out from cannon. The foam ammo just gets placed into the cannon and when ready you hit the fire button and the ammo will travel a few inches int he air before falling to the ground.
There are 3 buttons on the side of the Howitzer that will make different explosion noises when pressed.
On the bottom of the Howitzer there is your basic on/off button but there is also a free wheeling / motorized button. When the Howitzer is in free wheeling mode, you use the buttons on top to make it go forward or reverse. When it is in motorized mode, the Howitzer will move forward or reverse by itself depending on how you have the forward/reverse lever located.
To make this seem realistic, they even added plastic anchors on the back of the Howitzer. When you pull the anchors down and have them sitting on the ground, the Howitzer will be anchored down on the ground so that it can't roll over or anything. Our Howitzer will still move forward with the anchors down but it won't go in reverse.
It's so cool!
I had more fun playing with the Howitzer than I did with the chopper, and my husband had more fun with the chopper. Both of my kids really enjoy playing with the Howitzer and they love to use little action figures in the man holes. The Howitzer has stood up against foot high power ranger zords and has even taken a tumble from 3 foot heights, and it keeps going and going.
I would highly recommend the GI Joe Attack Howitzer for GI Joe fans out there. I also recommend to buying GI Joe's Turbo Chopper to double up on the fun.
Like the chopper, the Howitzer needs 4 AA batteries which are already included.
