A few years ago my youngest son received Gamewright’s Go Bananas! in his Christmas stocking. Go Bananas comes with forty monkey cards, eight gotcha gator cards, six banana cards, one wild gotcha gator card and rules.
Gamewright’s Go Bananas is recommended for children five and up and require two to five players to play.
Let’s play
To play Go Bananas you need to shuffle all the cards and deal them out equally to all the players. If you have any extra cards, place them back in the box. Stack your cards, face down, in a pile in front of you.
All players count, one, two, three in unison then draw the top card from their pile and turn it face up in front of them. Make sure everyone can see all of the cards.
Now you need to be the first player to spot and slap two different piles containing one of the three conditions:
Monkey Matching Opposites: If you spot a red –which is a wild monkey- and a blue –which is a mild monkey- that have the same number, you must slap both piles and yell “Go Bananas”. The person who does this collects both cards and puts them unshuffled at the bottom of his face down pile.
Gotcha Gators: If a Gotcha Gator card appears with either a red or blue monkey card of the same number. Slap the piles and yell “Gotcha Gator” and collect all the cards. So if you have a two Gotcha Gator Card and a blue or red two monkey card, you can slap the pile and yell “Gotcha Gator”.
If the wild gotcha gator appears, you can match that with any card. So if the wild gotcha gator appears, you can slap that card and any monkey card and yell “Gotcha Gator”.
Banana Mush-Match: If you find a fresh banana and a rotten banana on two different piles, this also makes a match. When you spot this combination, you slap the piles and yell “Splat”
If you make a mistake and slap a pile that does not make a match or if you forget to yell “go bananas’, “gotcha gator” or splat”, you lose a card. You will need to take the top card from your face down pile and place it face up in the middle of the playing area to be played during the next round.
If no matches can be made, all players pick up their cards and put them at the bottom of their pile to be played again.
If you lose all your cards, you are out of the game. The person who ends up with all the cards is the winner.
Some games take a lot longer than others. We normally put a time limit on the games. If you reach the time limit, the person with the most cards wins.
Go Bananas is a fun, silly, fast paced game. As a family we have enjoyed this game, but it is not one of our favorites.
We do like card games as you can take them anywhere and play just about anywhere.
Go Banana’s would make a great gift for younger children. You could buy it for a stocking stuffer or for an Easter basket. Santa brought this so I don’t recall what the cost of it was but I found it online at Amazon.com for $8.99. Gamewright’s Go Bananas requires fast thinking, good eye-hand coordination, and the need to categorize numbers and objects. It’s not an educational game but it is fun.
Our family likesGamewright’s Go Bananas but it is not one of favorite games to play.
