Pros: Excellent for good soil.
Cons: Does not work on rocky areas
The Bottom Line: I would certainly recommend this if you have the proper soil. Ours is too rocky.

Actually its New Jersey but that has nothing to do with the movie title. I have an acre of land that is basically rocks. Many years ago, in this area of New Jersey, the glaciers receded and left all the stone that they had pushed up from the North. We don't just put in a rock garden-our whole garden is a rock garden. Well, maybe that's a bit of an exxageration-the actual rock garden we have is made up of the smaller "boulders" that we dislodged while working in the garden. I make what I call my "burial mounds" in order to plant things, almost every piece of property here has a stone wall and we've put in several stone (of course),patios. It's our "if you can't fight 'em join 'em " theory. We also have a nice pond with yes, rock walls.
Despite my husband's protests I tried The Garden Claw because it promised so much, unfortunately there should have been a disclaimer. Its meant to dig into the soil and with a turn, twirl motion, loosen it up, dislodging rocks and aerating at the same time. The premise is good. It just isn't a tool meant for the likes of our soil. We really need a hand held back hoe. Since no such thing exists we gave this a whirl. To be perfectly honest, we ended up returning it. Its not the fault of the tool. In soft, pliable, amended soil it works well enough. We have amended our soil, of course. We've brought in truck loads of soil but those rocks seem to work there way up if that's possible so that no matter where I go to plant things I take a hit.
You have to know what you're up against before buying this tool. In the right place, with the right soil, I'd give it a green thumbs up. In Northern New Jersey, it's a resounding no.
