| daisymae76's Full Review: Gerber Lil' Snackin' Bowl - 2 Pk |
While chatting with a friend of mom, the topic of toddler snacks came up which turned to the topic of the mess toddlers make when eating their snacks on the go. My friend said she had seen Gerber L'il Snackin' Bowls at Target and it sounded like the perfect solution. So I picked up a package of these bowls and hoped my days of constantly stepping on goldfish crackers and cheerios were over.
About the Product Included in the package are 2 plastic bowls and 2 rubbery lids. The bowls are your standard small plastic bowl and are the exact same as the Bunch-a-bowls also made by Gerber. The rubbery lids are slightly domed have a "door" cut out which is a serious of closely spaced rubber flaps that allow the child to reach in and grab the snack, but will prevent the snack from spilling out all over the floor.
The bowls and lids come in a package that sells for around $5.
Our Experience I was very eager to test this product out. I filled the bowl up with goldfish crackers and then attempted to put the lid on. The lid did not snap on easily. I had to work to get the lid to fit on the bowl and snap into place. It seemed almost like the lid was just a tad bit too small to fit over the bowl so I really had to wrestle it into place.
Once it was secure, I gave the bowl of snacks to Olivia and watched to see how she did with it. At first she seemed confused and then got upset. Once I showed her how to get to her snacks, the didn't have a problem. Her hand fit into the door easily. However, she really didn't like having to shove her hand into the hole to get her snacks. For some reason, this product just made her mad. Within a minute or two of Olivia getting the bowl for the first time, she attempted to dump the crackers out. The door was no match for Olivia. About half of the crackers came flying out of the bowl with the first upside shake. With a couple more shakes, Olivia had the bowl pretty much empty and then she was free to happily eat goldfish off the carpet.
I was really disappointed. Didn't Gerber actually test this product out? The rubbery door is worthless. It is too flimsy to actually keep any kind of snack in the bowl. I suppose if you have a really mellow toddler who holds their bowl of snacks gently and maybe tips the bowl slightly, this would work, but seriously, who has that kind of child? Most toddlers I know are going to shake and bang and throw the bowl because that's just what they do. The Gerber L'il Snackin' Bowls were a complete waste. I tried them once or twice more and always got the same results. Snacks ended up all over the floor and Olivia was always mad at me for giving her the stupid covered bowl in the first place.
I definitely don't recommend these. They are a complete waste of money. I kept the bowls, but the lids were tossed out long ago.
