Pros: Better sound that the 335
Cons: Discontinued but available at closeout prices from catalogs
The Bottom Line: Buy this guitar while you can. A Gibson for under $1000 is a legal steal.

| raymondj's Full Review: Gibson Es-135 |
The Gibson 135 isn't a legendary guitar like a Strat or 335. What caught my attention was the closeout price of $999; the 2003 model eliminates f-holes. I was looking for a replacement for an ES 335 I had bought used that now needed about $500 worth of work--frets, bridge pickup, finish. For $499 more I got a new guitar that sounds unbelievably rich with its PA% 1957 humbuckers and slightly thicker body. It has changed the way I play guitar because it sounds so mellow and jazzy. I'm no longer just playing loud; I can play with subtlety and be heard distinctively. One of the 1st things I did was compose a jazz lead to "Over the Rainbow" using jazz chords for a melody line that wouldn't have occurred to me on the 335 or a Strat, or an acoustic guitar. The natural finish is gorgeous; it is not widely available any more and costs $500 extra for the 335.
