The Votoy Cat Sponge Balls can be a hit or miss, depending on your cats. Luckily, even if it's a miss, you won't be throwing too much money away since you can find these four packs fairly cheap, we paid only $1.55 for our four pack.
There are four small sponge balls in a pack, colors may vary depending on where you get them, but ours were blue, pink, green and yellow, almost like the ones pictured here except that the blue and green ones were more pastel colors rather than the dark ones shown. These balls are made of a sponge type material and are very lightweight and soft, you definitely won't hurt your foot if you step on them, even if one of them ends up in your shoe.
There's really nothing fancy about these balls, you basically just toss them out on the floor for your cats to play with. We tried these in the past, with Frisky only playing them every once in a while, but we bought some more back in June when we adopted Reva, along with some other toys.
Sometimes the balls will just sit there for days not being touched and then they'll get played with, which is why I say it can be a hit or miss. I found that if you spray or rub catnip on the balls you can get your cat interested in these for at a least a little while, that's what we had to do with Frisky to get him to play with them. Reva on the other hand enjoys playing with them more often. To get her interested in them, all we have to do is toss it across the room or down the hallway and she will chase them, bat them around and even throw them, eventually bringing it back to you to do it all over again. One of the great things is because of the material they are made from, no matter where they are flung by your cat, they won't leave a mark, in fact they will actually bounce off the wall.
These little sponge balls can last for quite a while and endure being clawed without falling apart all over the floor. We also learned that these little balls actually can act like a sponge too. During one of her play times with the pink ball, Reva ended up tossing it into the kitchen, right into their water bowl. The ball actually started to float at first since they don't have all the big pores like a sponge does, then Reva tried to retrieve it but ended up pushing down into the water. It quickly absorbed quite a bit of water and took a couple days to completely dry out. It didn't smell after it dried, but it definitely wasn't as soft as it was before.
If your cats like to play with balls, I definitely recommend you give these a try. These are a very inexpensive toy to give your cat and they last quite a while, ours are still intact after six months of use, at least three of them are, the blue one is currently missing.
