Began the first book some time back, haven't finished it yet.
What I'd really like to see - more than this CGI-saturated film adaptation - is the staged version of 'His Dark Materials' that was presented in London last spring, I believe. Sounded much more interesting than this film seems to be !

Hi Teresa,
You're absolutely right. I believe there was a National Theatre production (2 stage plays) of Golden Compass in 2005 and Tom Stoppard was involved. I haven't been able to find out much about them though.
Thing is, the trilogy's very much about religion and God in particular, and if you take them out, you're pretty much left with a strangely uninvolving plot and characters with so-so motivation.
And hi, Rouchelle! I think you'll enjoy the movie as long as you don't expect it to reflect the themes of the books. Thanks for reading, rating and commenting!
