| cmuir's Full Review: Goldschlager Cinnamon Schnapps Liqueur |
When Goldschlager Cinnamon Schnapps Liqueur first came to the bar where I worked in Northwest Pa. there was a lot of controversy about it. You see this schnapps contains 24 karat gold leaf flakes. Approximately 8 to 17 mg. per bottle and people were very concerned as to what ingesting gold leaf would do to them. I have done some research on this and as long as you don't ingest several bottles a week you should be fine. Of course if you are still nervous, please feel free to strain. Also the drinks poured out of the first three quarters of the bottle never even get the leaf since it sinks to the bottom of the bottle. Try shaking the bottle before pouring to evenly distribute the leaf.
When I first tried it I was concerned also about choking on a piece of the leaf, but you never even notice it. The pieces are very tiny about the size of a pin head.
Goldschlager Cinnamon Schnapps in made in Lausanne Switzerland by Schmid & Gassler, and imported by Paddington Ltd. It contains 43.5 % alcohol by volume.
We always kept this cold in the cooler which makes this clear cinnamon flavored schnapps very crisp. When opening the bottle you get a wonderful cinnamon scent, kind of like those little red cinnamon candies you used to eat as a kid. At first taste it will light your mouth up, warm your throat and stomach, then leaves a slight cinnamon after taste making your mouth feel fresh and clean. There is no alcohol taste to this at all.
This is another liquor that I rarely made into a mixed drink. Shots were the number one use, although I prefer sipping mine.
This is best served chilled in a small rocks glass. I prefer not to add ice to mine, since I just sip it the ice melts and has a tendency to water down my drink and ruin the nice crisp taste.
This would be wonderful to sip on after a dinner, rather like an after dinner mint. Also is great when you are taking a walking bar tour on chilly winter nights. Although this is a little pricy at $24.00 per bottle I have found it to be much lighter and crisper than most cinnamon schnapps that I have tried.
