| gopherm's Full Review: Goodyear Assurance TripleTred Tire |
What an impressive tire. The ride, handling and comfort are all they are built up to be.
I had 70,000 miles on my original tires and would have stretched them to the full 80,000 they were rated for if summer had been in front of me instead of winter. The top of Lincoln's head was showing so I switched the tires in mid-fall.
The tread pattern is very aggressive and they must be mounted so that the tread pattern rotates forward, therefore rotating the tires will be from the front to the back on the same side of the vehicle.
I drive a 5 year old Dodge Gran Caravan Sport and the handling was immediately improved with the new tires. I live in southern Maryland with plenty of rolling hills and winding roads and these tires really grip the pavement.
Since I got them in October I have had the opportunity to drive them under all road and weather conditions from tropical storms to sleet, freezing rain and near blizzard conditions. They have been on a round trip to Florida where I definitely appreciated the improved ride comfort and quietness of them on the open road.
Just before Christmas we experienced an overnight sleet and freezing rain. When I left for work the next morning the roadway was blocked by a truck that could not climb one of the slick hills. My new tires (and common sense and careful driving) allowed me to ease around the truck and onto the shoulder of the road and keep on moving.
We had gone to Virginia Beach for Christmas and returned home during terrible storm on the day after. We started out with freezing rain and by the time we reached Newport News there was about 8-10 inches of snow on the ground. I never had a bit of problem with traction. The sense of confidence I had with due to the great traction that let me get home safe and sound. Now we weren't driving anywhere close to highway speed but many others were sliding to a stop or spinning their tires at the intersections...I was always able to stop easily and I just eased on the gas and pulled away.
The tires are a bit pricey, but I guess between the peace of mind and improved safety and handling they are worth every penny.
One of the reviews states that they are noisy. My set is whisper quiet and really quiets down the normal thumps caused by the seams in the concrete on some highways. I don't end a trip with the bumble bee road buzz I have experienced with most other tires I have had.
If you need new tires and if you can afford the price, I don't think you can find a better tire for passenger use.
