Having run a home daycare for five years, I have had the experience of using several different brands of second hand high chairs. When it came to picking out a high chair for Rebecca, I had a few ideas of what I wanted and the Graco Double Tray Highchair had them all.
I love the fact that the seat area is padded and comfortable. Have you tried to feed a baby who is not comfortable in the seat he/she is sitting in? On a good day feeding a baby is not easy with trying to hit a moving target with a spoon, when they are uncomfortable they try to become escape artists. Rebecca does not mind sitting in this high chair and is actually comfortable enough that she will sit and play with her toys while I cook dinner or load/unload the dishwasher.
I like that the padding in vinyl because it cleans easily with a sponge. The padding is also removable which helps when you need to get at all the food your little one has managed to get all over and under the seat.
This high chair features two tray areas. A snack tray and a large tray. Until recently we just used the snack tray since Rebecca wasn't really eating finger foods and didn't need the large tray. In fact the tray is so large she was practically hidden behind when we put the high chair together four months ago. Now that we use the large tray, I have come to realize it is not the easiest to clean, because it is so large. It doesn't fit in the sink completely, so I resort to s damp paper towel or sponge & a squirt bottle with cleaner for the initial clean-up and then I just rinse in the sink. Both of these trays are removable to use the chair as a toddler chair when pushed up against the table.
The recline feature was especially helpful when Rebecca first started eating baby food. She did not have the ability to sit up on her own without support. Trying to feed her in a highchair without the recline feature would have been difficult both for her and for myself. The recline feature allowed her to be supported at a slight incline while she ate. As her muscles developed and she became able to support herself better on her own, I was able to adjust the level of incline until she was able to sit in a fully upright position.
I also love that the height of the chair itself can be adjusted. When I was using the recline position on the chair, I need the height to be lower so I was comfortable feeding Rebecca. Now that she is in a fully upright position, I needed to raise the chair. This feature also comes in handy when using the chair as a toddler chair. Since the trays detach, you can adjust the height of the chair according to the height of your table and push the chair up to the table so your little one can join in at family meals.
This may not be the cheapest high chair out on the market, but for the ease of use and the fact that you will use it daily it is well worth the price. I am glad I picked this high chair and am satisfied with this product.
