vanmennace's Full Review: Grand Theft Autoâ„¢ IV for PlayStation 3
Lets not fool around, and get straight to the point with this opinion. What is Grand Theft Auto IV? Just about everyone is familiar with the franchise, but if you are not then don't worry my only intention is to speak about this game. Your character in this game is Niko Bellic. The game starts with this immigrant illegally coming into the United States, and his cousin meeting up with him to welcome him to the Country for the first time. The goal of these two cousins is to live the American dream. For them that means, trying to stay alive while you kill damn near every villain and some in Liberty City. Also known as New York. The game is in third person view while traveling on foot. While in the vehicle you are free to change the camera view at will. While we are on the subject of camera views, I have to say the camera is great, and I have no complaints about it. I don't know about you, but I love me some Grand Theft Auto IV. The game allows you to do just about whatever you want. If you see a car you like, steal it. If someone offends you, beat them. Is that cop giving you the eye, kill him. Beware though showing aggression to a cop is always a bad idea, unless they are trying to kill you. The missions in this game are massive, meaning you have everything from driving taxi's for cash, to killing mob bosses. Now driving cars isn't the only thing you can play with in this game. You also have helicopters, and boats as well. The helicopters are a lot of fun, and can get you from one side of the map to the other pretty quickly. Then you have boats, and there isn't a lot of boats on the water at a time. There is though enough that you will be able to cause terror on the seas. Most of the missions in this game are going to have you against many, and become difficult at times. Causing you to do the mission over, and over again. Yes I have had to do a few of the missions over and over again, but I finally beat them. I find most of the missions to be pretty good, and fun to do. Most of them. Obviously everyone is wondering what I think about the graphics on this game. I'm going to tell you they are excellent. Not just the graphics, but the movement of citizens walking about the streets of Liberty. Try shooting one in the leg, and watch them limp, or when they are hit by a car, its great. Not that I think its funny to be hit by a car. Well its funny in Grand Theft Auto. There are tons of great things to say about this game, and to get to them all I would need to write a book. You should know that the controls are not always great. At times when trying to enter a vehicle Niko starts running all over the place sometimes causing him to be hit by a car. Which deducts from his life bar. Other times you will be in the middle of a gun battle trying to take cover behind a wall or something, and it doesn't always work the first time trying to hug the wall. Now I can handle those control issues, but one that doesn't make sense to me is the control for shooting and driving at the same time. Let me try to simply explain this to everyone. When you are driving around the city you are able to shoot out your window as well. In order to shoot you must hold the L1 button. You aim the weapon with the Right Thumb Stick button while using the left to steer. Unfortunately you also need to give the car gas, and braking when necessary. Which gas is the "X" button, and brake is the "Square" button. Something isn't going to be getting done properly, and most likely it will be giving the car gas, and brake. You'll find your way around that issue, and still enjoy playing this game. I would like you to be prepared for vile language along with sex, drugs, violence, and pure insanity that comes along with this game. The game is full of all of it, and to some it can bring a downer at times, but hopefully you can face those fears, and give this game a chance. If you pass it up then you have no idea of what you are missing. For all you fans of mini games, this one does have some. You can play pool, darts, arcade machines, and they have strip clubs as well. Try not to forget that the girl giving the lap dance is fake. Now if you are into online play, then you will enjoy this game as well. I found it pretty fun to play online with friends. There is nothing like getting a few buddies togethor, and gathering in one vehicle, taking on the cops of the mean streets of Liberty City in free mode. There are many types of games to be played online, though I have not played most of them I'm sure there is something for everyone there as well. In my opinion, this is a great game that only has a few flaws, and has brought many hours of gaming pleasure to me. I didn't tell you about everything this game has to offer, since like I said it would take forever. When you think your ready to dive into some real action, and adventure then don't past this one up.
