Pros: Easy installation, single push button operation
Cons: The Hewlett-Packard 5370C ScanJet may cost more than other comparable scanners.
The Bottom Line: As I wrote above, finally a scanner that is easy to install and use. It scans photos much faster than my old Dekka scanner.

HP ScanJet 5370C
Easy as 1,2,3.
In my early days of being introduced to computers and the peripherals that were attach to them nothing frustrated me more than having to use my scanner. It seemed as if it also was so complicated and every time I used it I was very disappointed with the results.
My first scanner then was a Dekka but I am not certain which model of a Dekka it was. Using this scanner was always a problem and the results were also always a disaster. I may have had put too much hopes in what a scanner could do without really knowing their limitation.
For one reason or another I thought that a scanner would convert my printer as a photocopier as long as my computer had a printer attach to it. Boy! Was I wrong? I was disappointed to a point that I did not even want to look at the new ones displayed in my local computer store.
The first gift I opened up on Christmas day 2001 was a HP scanner model ScanJet 5370C. It was a gift from my three children. I was happy but I did not look forward to the headache of connecting it to my computer since I still remembered the trouble I had to find a driver for my Dekka scanner.
The Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 5370C is a desktop scanner. To scan a document you simply lift the top cover and place it on the glass. With the scanner you also receive a video clip which will guide you through the easy installation procedure of the hardware.
The ScanJet 5370C comes with either USB or parallel port interfaces.
The Features:
This scanner offers users a lot of good features and what I like is that they are for the most part very user friendly.
1) Optical Character Recognition: (OCR) is software that makes the scanner recognize various languages.
2) One touch buttons: The scanner has a panel with various buttons for a one-touch operation for various functions.
3) Optical Automatic Document feeder: This feature allows the user for a hands-free unattended scanning of multiple documents and this up to legal size pages.
4) The scanner has up to 1,200-dpi optical resolution with 42 bit internal color processing.
5) Active Transparency Adapter: This feature allows the user to scan 35-mm slides, photo negatives and 5x5 transparencies.
6) The HP 5370C comes with Corel's Photo-Point 8 software.
7) It also comes with the HP Precision Scan Pro software that allows the user to adjust the image color and size.
Finally, I have a scanner that I like and that I enjoy using. The Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 5370C scanner is a breeze to install. I am running Widows Me but it is compatible with any other systems and even with Macs.
Not only it is easy to perform all the functions, most are a one-touch operation and the operation is done very fast.
I scanned a photo in less than a minute. I am very pleased with my new Hewlett-Packard scanner.
