Decided to upgrade my Sprint flip phone to something more powerful/capable. Opted out of the Blackberry world and decided to go with the Mogul.
I love the integration with Windows Vista and how I can do so much with my phone all at the same time. Set tasks and reminders for myself, update my calendar, send/receive my Yahoo and work email, browse the internet realistically, navigate with GPS, etc. List goes on and on. Biggest thing this has over the HTC Touch is the integrated keyboard, which is very useful. I am a big screen typer, but at times, the keyboard is very handy. Camera is good at times, but can get blurry if there is motion. Wi-fi is a great option if you are somewhere that has no data reception but has Wi-Fi. Not too common though and since you should get an unlimited data plan anyway, there isn't a huge need for Wi-Fi as I see it, but you can connect to home networks or VPNs so that is a plus.
Once you realize this device is a computer and NOT a cell phone, you will see that there is a ton of software out there and everything is customizable. Examples are you can install a program to stream Sirius satellite radio through your phone, do live webcasts, use it as an MP3 player, adjust the registry to customize just about anything. There are many message boards out there (ppcgeeks.com, sprintusers.com) with forums dedicated solely to this device and other people with it write tutorials, answer questions, etc. to allow you to get the most of out this device. I have made a ton of upgrades to this since getting it once I realized it was possible. Far too many people probably never do anything to it at this level, but to them it's still a revolutionary device. This device has a ton of potential for the above-average computer-savvy user.
The screen could be larger. It's not too bad, but many other devices have a larger screen, especially pure PDAs that aren't also cell phones.
And the worst things about this is the lack of picturemail, aka MMS. For some ridiculous reason, Sprint has not added this feature to this phone. Same with SprintTV. No reason anyone can explain and I have read tons of message board traffic on this. One of the few things you can't customize on this. Not sure what the deal is.
Sprint just recently came out with an upgrade which added in GPS and EVDO REV A for data transfer, which are huge. This thing has near broadband speeds and for a cell phone, it's unreal.
Sound quality on phone calls is good, much better than my last phone (Samsung flip phone) and the reception is better too. I can get calls in places I could not before.
Battery life out of the box was average I'd say, but I applied some registry hacks I found online and it significantly improved it. 2 days of total use for sure, 3-4 if you kept the usage down to essentials.
Volume isn't too great at the top level. If you are in a noisy place, you may have trouble hearing who you are talking to.
Overall, this device isn't too bulky, comes with a nice case in the box, and has a ton of good features. Price is totally reasonable too.
