I am not here to announce that I have a dandruff problem, I am here to say I no longer have one. I have naturally curly hair which is dry ( which causes dandruff) , but I have now learned to control half the problem. What do I use to keep the flakes gone? Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment Shampoo.
Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment Shampoo comes in a dark blue bottle. The bottle I use is 15.2 FL OZ.The actually shampoo is a dark orangey peach color. I started using this product last year and I absolutely love it. Let me start by sharing my hair story.
I have naturally curly hair. The humidity kills it and the winter months dry it out. When I say dry, I dont mean just on the ends, I mean all over, scalp included. I had tried everything in the pass to prevent the dryness, but now I have it under control once and for all. I use other styling products to tame the frizziness, but to prevent the dandruff that the dryness causes I use Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment Shampoo.
What do I like about Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment Shampoo? For one, the first time I used the product I instantly noticed that the dandruff was almost completely gone. I did have to use it a few times to get it completely under control. I only have to use it twice a week if that now. I can now go months without dandruff, but I do still have to come back and use Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment Shampoo during the winter months, more so than any other time of year. I am hoping this year since I have moved to California from the east coast I will not have to use it this winter, but we shall see.
Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment Shampoo contains medication. That I will share right off the bat. It contains 1% Selenium Sulfide. This does not hurt my scalp at all and best of all my hair does not dry out from the shampoo or the medication in it. In the past I have tried other medicated shampoos that have burned my scalp or dried my hair out.
Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment Shampoo is easy to use. The directions are really common sense. You wet your hair, massage onto your scap, then rinse thoroughly. There is no need to repeat the wash. The bottle does say that if you bleach, tint, or have grey or permed hair you should rinse for five minutes.
Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment Shampoo is FDA approved to help stop itching, flaking, scaling, irritation and redness associated with dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. I use it strictly to treat dandruff. I am not too sure what seborrheic dermatitis is, so I can not comment if it does work to treat this condition.
The ingredients are as follows: 1% Selenium Sulfide, water, ammonium laureth sulfate, ammonium lauryl sulfate, cocamide mea, glycol distearate, ammonium xykenesulfonate, dimethecone, fragrance, tricetylmonium chloride, cetyl alcohol, dmdm hydantoin, sodium chloride, stearyl alcohol, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, and fd&c red no. 4.
One last note, the fragrance is pleasant. It does not smell like you have a ton of medication in your hair, infact, you can not even tell that you use this product. I will say that it smells more like Suave regular shampoo. No bad fragrances at all. Do I recommend Head and Shoulders Intensive Treatment Shampoo? Yes, I do. It does work and I can now say that I have dandruff under control once and for all.
