I got this notebook for my graduation gift. I was at Circuit City looking for a good laptop, and I came along this one. The only thing that I did not like about this laptop was that it had windows Vista programmed right on it already. I would prefer to have a computer with Windows XP.
Qualities of the Laptop DVD Burner
But, while I was using this laptop, I found many different good qualities about it. It has a DVD burner with a light scribe feature on it. It helps out when you have the blank CDs on top, and you just want to burn a good picture right onto the disc that you can just quickly download off of the internet (Not so hard of a process).
Operating System
Even though I would prefer to have Windows XP, I did like the desktop feature on the Vista version. You can get the current events, a clock, the stock market and you get the weather right there as well. With this I have been able to keep up with some of the most important of the current events, where I just have to do a quick read of a paragraph a day. With this, you will be able to tell whats going on in the world because you have this (Or just get Vista).
Hard drive and RAM
The amount of space on the computers hard drive is plenty for a student going to college, or a person running a small business from their own home. I also think that there is plenty of RAM on this computer for any use. My Desktop at home has 2GB of RAM is works with everything that I do on it, however this laptop comes with 3GB of RAM which is very nice. This makes the computer start up nice and quick, and gets going on what you need to right away.
Battery Life
I normally just let my laptop sit on my table plugged in all day, and really don't unplug it and go elsewhere unless needed to. When I do use it out in the family room, or just to go and sit down outside my normal place, the battery seems to only last an hour or two. I however do not want it to just die on me, so I normally leave when its 20-35% of the battery remaining so I can plug it in and recharge it.
So if you are looking to take it out for long periods of time, like a long class, or even a plane ride, you might want to keep a few things in mind. I would suggest that you take either a backup battery attachment, or make sure there is a plug-in near by to keep it charging.
Programs
I dont know if all these laptops come with exactly the same programs built on them, but mine came with Microsoft 2007, the word, excel, power point, and other programs like them. These were hard to figure out at first, cause the general layout (Like on Word 2007) is a little different.
Quick Launch
Now one of my most favorite features about this laptop is the quick launch. Right on the computer it says that it launches DVDs, videos, photos, music, karaoke, and internet TV at the touch of a button. However most of that is not what I like about the quick launch. When I wake up, I reach over and open up my laptop, now I cant always find where the Power button is on the laptop, so all you have to do is feel your hand across the back of the keyboard, and you will trigger one of the touch screen type buttons and it will turn your computer right now.
Remote
Now the computer comes with a remote, but I do not use that. When I first looked at it, it confused me a little, and I decided that I could just use the computer itself since Im close enough to it. The remote is also very small and seems like it is just going to snap anyway.
Graphics Card
The graphics card really is not that bad either. One of the reasons I picked this laptop, is because it comes with an NVIDIA graphics card. For some reason, I just have liked the NVIDIA cards better than the other brands. This one however is a GeForce Go 7150M graphics card. It has a memory o 1071MB.
The Computer Screen
The screen is very nice. Its not too big where it is burdensome, but it is also not small, so you cant see anything. It has a 15.4 diagonal BrightView widescreen display. HP says that its great for watching DVDs on the go or at Home.
Sound Quality
The sound is great as well. You can turn the sound up and down with the slide of the finger. The sound is clear and can get to be quite loud if you want it to.
Built in Microphone
The computer has a built in microphone as well. I found this out when I decided to just go onto a program called Teamspeak to talk with some of my friends online, thinking I would only be able to listen and not speak back. But surely enough I was able to talk right into the microphone built into the left side of the laptop (I believe).
Wireless and Wi-Fi
Now the wireless connection is very nice. I go all over my house and get a nice clear connection. I use it almost 24/7, whenever I am online or want to print something off another computer on my network. Although I have not tried it yet, I am sure that it would work perfectly with any place that has Wi-Fi connection.
SD Card Slot
What I am not used to, but enjoy having, is the SD card slot where I can quickly take things off the computer and put them in my phone, of use it to put pictures on for my moms digital picture frame.
Recommendation
I enjoy this laptop and think that it will help anyone that gets it. I got it for myself to get ready for college. If you are, or you know someone that is going off to college, this would be a great gift for them. Ive had it for a good few months, and dont seem to be having that much problems with it. Even if something starts to go wrong, the computer does an automatic system recovery if anything does go wrong, and puts itself back into a position of working to its full potential again.
If you get this computer, I hope it works as well for you as it does for me. I know that the features help me out a lot, and that the computer is a great investment. I now use it to help with my work, and organizing my information. If the hard drive is not big enough, a simple external hard drive works just as well as a bigger one built in. Enjoy it.

The GeForce 8800GT graphics card is the same as the one in this laptop, except the one in here is a lower quality, yet will still be good for what ever you want to do.
