melissasrn's Full Review: Mattel Holiday 2004 Barbie Doll
Ever since my now 14 year old daughter, Kelsey, has been old enough to hold a Barbie doll in her hands, I've been collecting the special Holiday Barbie from two different series now as a special traditional gift she receives ever year during Christmas time. Despite the fact that she's long outgrown her interest in playing with Barbie dolls, she still enjoys collecting the special holiday editions as she keeps them on display in their original boxes in her room. So when I saw the new 2004 Holiday Barbie Doll already on sale in plenty of time for the upcoming holiday season at my local Wal-Mart a few weeks ago, I purchased her on the spot as it's always hard to tell how fast she'll sell out. For in years past, some dolls have been pretty hard to come by so I certainly wasn't taking any chances! Read on to find out more about this newest keepsake Barbie doll beautifully dressed in her hunter green velvet winter gown.
~~~The Collectors Doll~~~
This special edition 2004 Holiday Barbie Doll is just one in the newest series of dolls starting with the 2000 Celebration Barbie Doll first issued four years ago as a follow-up series to the immensely popular Happy Holidays series of the 1990's. According to product advertising: for well over a decade, Barbie has celebrated each holiday season with a beautiful doll commemorating the year. In 2004, the newest Holiday Barbie joins this proud tradition dressed in rich, green velvet embellished with glittering sparkles. The year's end brings a beautiful world of shimmering frost and perfect snowflakes. During the glorious holiday season, we receive the best gift of all: family festivities, friendships renewed, and wonderful memories to last a lifetime. Come join the Holiday Barbie collecting tradition with and celebrate the holidays with this splendid and exquisite special edition keepsake doll, which is sure to be treasured by you and your family for generations to come. She comes packaged in a collector's see through plastic box that's rounded in the back and indented on both sides in front. The silver trim and background compliment her green dress beautifully. On the back is a full sized photo of the posed doll as well as a cute little hunter green bow in the spot where the box can be opened if desired. Designed for Barbie fans ages 6 and older, this 2004 Holiday Barbie Doll is definitely one to keep inside the box, however, as there are three suspended snowflakes of different sizes surrounding this gorgeous doll. Purchase this 2004 Holiday Barbie Doll today in the toy aisle of your favorite discount or department store or online at places like walmart.com for $36.88. Of course some stores tend to place these special editions on sale once the winter holiday buying season officially begins, but my nerves won't allow me to wait that long even though in recent years there always seems to be plenty of dolls to go around and shortages are rare unlike during the early 1990's. It's easy to distinguish this doll from other special Barbie editions as the box clearly states she is the Special 2004 Holiday Barbie Edition. In recent years, there's usually plenty to go around, so hopefully Mattel followed suit this year so that demand won't outnumber the supply. Then again, she's worth more years down the road when a limited number is released. Buy the 2004 Holiday Barbie Doll in the traditional blonde/caucasian version online today here:
~~~My Thoughts~~~
So far in the newest series of collector Holiday Barbie dolls, there's been two dolls with white gowns, one with a red gown, and one with a gold gown. So this 2004 Holiday Barbie Doll is the first one released wearing a rich green velvet gown featuring glittering sparkles on both the fitted bodice and the long lines of the full length, flowing skirt. Over the dress is a 3/4 sleeve length velour jacket with a high neckline and dropped open sleeves. She holds a matching green and silver handbag and wears an elegant silver with green stones necklace. Her large studded dazzling earrings are also silver in color, which matches both the necklace and the trim on the handbag. Her waist length blonde hair do is gorgeously pulled back in a high ponytail with a matching green hair piece while a long thick tendril is left hanging out in front to compliment her evening look. Although you can't see her shoes beneath the long green dress, they are still there along with a doll stand for those that like to display their collectible dolls. Her eyes are dramatically made up with black liner and curled top lashes and deep purple shadow to bring out her large blue eyes. In contrast, her lip color is a more natural and very conservative shiny light pink color, which matches her contrasting eye look perfectly. So when compared to her predecessors, she's just as beautiful yet different in her own way because of her dark colored dress and accessories. So in a few months, I have no doubts that Kelsey will be more than happy to add this 2004 Holiday Barbie Doll to her existing collection proudly displayed on the top of her dresser all year long.
~~~Overall Recommendation~~~
Look for this 2004 Holiday Barbie Doll early in plenty of time for the upcoming holiday season as it's always difficult to predict just how many will still be left to line the shelves once December gets here. Of course you'll most likely get a better price if you wait and plenty are left over and placed on clearance after the holiday season is over with, but I'm always afraid she'll sell out before this has a chance to happen. So just like in years past, I purchased my daughter's special collectible edition as soon as it hit the shelves just to be on the safe side. Now the hard part will be keeping this beautiful doll hidden away from view for several months until Christmas morning. So in conclusion, I highly recommend the newest 2004 Holiday Barbie Doll to collectors of all ages. For there's just something special about re-living a young girl's traditional holiday fantasy year after year even though she's growing into a young woman much faster than I ever dreamed she would. Good luck and happy online Barbie collecting!
