| bablondie25's Full Review: Hoover Steamvac Silver F59150900 |
I don't just go out and buy anything. I like to look at reviews, do tons of research and ask other people online (or in person) if they like something before making any major (and minor) purchases. I value my money and I don't like things to pile up in storage or to waste my money. So I found this Hoover Steamvac Silver F59150900 at Walmart.com for the price of $146.94. It had great reviews and I was in a serious need for a carpet steam cleaner! I had previously bought a Spot Bot by Bissell and love it for minor spots around the house, but it doesn't clean every inch of our home! I also had a horrible experience by hiring a carpet cleaning company, who came in and supposedly cleaned my carpets (I beg to differ), leaving $320 less in my bank account. I had just about had enough! I needed a better solution, afterall my carpets are wall-to-wall on two floors of my home! I also have a cat, a teenager and a toddler!
My carpets are the cheap apartment beige ones that I like to tell everyone. It's like when they put my house together, they bought the cheapest carpet on the market. It tracks in everything. My son spills DAILY, whether it's soda, juice, water, food, and you name it! We have parties at our home and entertain. We take our shoes off at the door, but sometimes people still wear shoes in our home. Our carpets had stains, spots, dirt, dust mites, and just overall ICK even after I used the spot bot in some areas, even after I have rented machines from the grocery store and even after I hired professionals!
That's where this Hoover Steamvac comes in. I cannot RAVE about it enough. Leakage? No, there is none! I followed the specific instructions it told me to use the trigger a few times before turning on, I followed it and I'm in LOVE! What a great deal, too! Walmart and Walmart.com carries this for under $150. Most steam vacs or carpet cleaners cost over $200 or $250 easily! Most leak, others are just too difficult to figure out. This is easy to use. I just opened the box and read the directions and took off the wrapping. I popped things into place and used the "trigger" mechanism and it was ready to go! It's also easy to store and push around!
So here's what I do...I will fill up the water tank with a couple teaspoons full of carpet cleaner. I use MY FAVORITE which is Earth Friendly's Bergamot and Sage Carpet Shampoo (non-toxic) and it lasts FOREVER. I only need a couple squirts. You will have to experiment with the shampoo you have and see what works for you, or if you like to use Oxyclean, etc. So I don't follow the directions or use the measuring cup. I will fill it up with HOT water, or very warm water and sometimes bubbles are created (up to the fill line). I screw in the cap and snap the water tank (1 gallon) into the machine (via the instructions). It EASILY snaps into place (and has an easy carrying handle for carrying to the sink to fill). It is not too huge for anyone to carry or handle. The used water tank is snapped into place and ready to go. I will switch on the machine (by the left foot) and then unhook the arm of the machine (right foot) so I can push it back and forth. I will squeeze the trigger when going back or forth (or just one direction even), which releases water at the same time the vacuum will suck up the water. Near the bottom of the machine I will switch on the brushes (rotating brushes, which is an amazing thing). The positions are off, low and high. I like high, but low works great too! Low and high mean the speed of the brushes. There is a button to push down on top of the handle for "spot cleaning". It just gets the brushes down deep and foams up real good.
So I will take the machine and as spraying the easy trigger for water and shampoo to come out and bring the machine back. I instantly NOTICE that it just GLIDES. Barely any muscle or work goes into it on my part. Wow. But I am worried about the water either leaking or being sucked up good enough. Guess what? No worries! No leaking anywhere, and the water sucks up the first pass. I do make extra passes with the vacuum without using the trigger to make sure, but it has amazing suction power! When I get to a stain or spot, I use the spot cleaner and sit there for 5 or ten seconds then make a few swipes with the vacuum to suck up the shampoo (it'll be foamy). On very filthy carpets, I will go over a spot once, twice or even three times. The spot comes up after one or two times. Stains like red ones, never come out. I will use an enzyme spray beforehand to pretreat the stains before vacuuming to help bring up stains and spots.
This machine is amazing. It takes me about an hour per room (average sized). I won't do the whole house in one day, it's too many hours and too much work and too many trips to the sink. But one room here and there...it's perfect. Ten times better than ordering a grocery store machine and having to do the whole house in 24 hours and then bringing it back to the store. The machine also stores easily, I just push against a wall or in a closet and it takes seconds to fill up and start using (almost as easy as turning on a vacuum). To do one room, I have to empty the dirty tank in the toilet about 10 times and fill up the tank about 10 times. That is to be expected. It's a little bit of work, and you get a workout.
I noticed my carpets dry within 30 minutes, some spots an hour. I live in a wet environment, so that is amazing! The water comes out black, it's so dirty and I am in shock that I ever lived without this machine. If this machine works even twice, it's worth the money compared to a carpet cleaning company charging 300$ for a full house or more for one visit! I got my money's worth with one house cleaning! I will now clean my rooms about once per month or every other month and my carpets will have more longevity. I worry about having to sell my house someday with carpets like mine, but no more with this machine!
It comes with a hose to attach. You need to read the directions on how to do this and then you can use it on upholstry and the stairs. I have 2 sets of stairs in my 3-story home, so it comes in handy! I use my Spot Bot mostly for stairs because it's convenient, but I keep the hose on hand and have tried it out and it works perfectly. It also sucks up well and has brushes and you have to use a little elbow grease and pressure to get stains out.
This machine is a must for anyone with kids or pets that is for sure! It is also not that noisy. I mean it makes noise, but it's not louder than a regular vacuum, probably a bit quieter. I love the brushes on this thing, it really gets up dirt! The suction power is amazing. It is so easy to use, my teenager can use it without problems. I cannot comment on the longevity of the product, since I've only owned it a few months (but I'll update later). It is durable and can do the whole house.
Personally, I find that if you pretreat (with natural enzyme spray found in the natural department of your grocery store, or supplement or pet stores) and then use Earth Friendly carpet shampoo (found on Drugstore.com) or some green formula for carpets along with hot water and this machine, then your carpets will feel and look like brand new (well, almost!). This $150 machine did 10x a better job than professionals I hired, so what does that say?
It has a 12-amp motor and only weighs 29.1 pounds. The hose is eight-feet long, and has one attachment. It has a place to store the attachment on the machine (which is nice)...which they call a hand tool. The cord is long enough to reach lots of areas at 21 feet. The brushes spin and can be reordered when needing new ones. It has no belts inside the machine (so no replacement belts). The website says it has heated cleaning, but I don't see anywhere on my machine that it does that. I don't worry about it, I just use hot water and that works well.
So far so good with this machine and no need to get any replacement parts. My carpets smell fresh and boy does it get up a lot of dust and dust mites that I didn't even know were in there! Even if you think your carpets are clean, you use this machine and find out different! Dust really gets trapped in carpets and hides!
I have nothing bad to say about this machine at all! Not one! I have to say that this is actually fun to use, that I will pull it out after a get together and use it real quick in a high-traffic area (like I did after we had a bunch of Thanksgiving guests). I'll use it for ten minutes and then put away, and place a fan nearby and it's dry within minutes (about twenty). My stepdad was so enthralled, he carpet steamed my whole dining room area, which was horribly filthy and it took him about an hour or a little over an hour to do. No more worrying about hooking up hoses to sinks and leakage and all that from older machines. This is like a little machine miracle.
I worked on 3 rooms and thought I would be sore from shampooing rooms for a few hours and the next day, I was not sore! It just is that easy to push and pull (and use!).
