| BeckyJo's Full Review: Hot Wheels Motorized Criss Cross Crash |
My 5 year old received the Hot Wheels Criss Cross Crash set for Christmas. He had seen it advertised on TV and REALLY wanted it. Just over a month later he hardly plays with it at all.
The set is easily assembled into a double figure 8 track. The 4-way intersection in the middle is where the motorized parts of the track push the cars along fast enough to make it around to be pushed again. There are 2 speeds to choose from: fast, and really fast. The set comes with 2 Hot Wheels cars.
Some positive things about the set are: ease of assembly, very entertaining to watch, and ease of disassembly.
Some negative things about the set: the motorized part is very noisy! Louder than any other toys we have, which is saying a lot. The cars don't always stay on the track and fly off without warning. The toy doesn't really spark the imagination, thus making it boring within just a few times of play.
My son loved this set in the beginning, and quickly got bored with it. He started putting other toys on the track to add to the "fun", watching them get crashed into, but even that got tiresome quickly. We have other children over to play often, and none of them seemed interested in the toy. I would say the best age range that would enjoy the toy the longest would be 3 and 4 year olds who are in LOVE with anything HotWheels. If that's not who you are buying for, I would avoid this toy and just buy some Hot Wheels cars and wooden blocks. That would offer much more flexible play for a bigger age range and for a much longer period of time.
