| dance4joy's Full Review: Ivar's Acres of Clams |
Among my many fond memories of life in Seattle, from where I moved three years ago, are wonderful times along the waterfront and Pier 54, and special meals at Ivar's. Whether you want a more leisurely and "classy" sit-down-inside meal... or fish-and-chips to eat at the outdoor pier tables along the waterfront... Ivar's has it all!
My personal favorite at Ivar's was eating at the small tables lining the "walkway" type pier and having the sea gulls swoop down to eat french fries out of my hand! And -- as the signs say -- sea gulls are the *only* animals who will not overeat -- it is "safe" to feed them.... no more "Please don't feed the animals" signs! I always loved to take children there when my friends visited me from out of state. Then, to make the day complete, you can jump on a ferryboat and, for a very inexpensive cost, ride to one of the islands and back.
Being the "casual, outdoor" type, my favorite dish was the fish-and-chips on the pier -- but then I am allergic to most seafood, and I understand other meals in the restaurant are fantastic!
I would recommend Ivar's to most everyone... the main restaurant is great for special celebrations and nice dinners; the booth on the pier for families and the more adventurous type. Dress up... or come in the typical "Seattle grunge."
For the main restaurant, reservations are definitely recommended; for the pier booth, just stop by on the street any old time. Either way... you'll have a *wonderful* time!
