| soupcraze's Full Review: JBL S-Center Center Speaker |
JBL. Center channel. 3-Way design. Studio series. $159? No way! This has got to be a joke! Yes, it's true, the JBL S-CENTERII can be purcahsed online for only $159. I've been able to hear my friend Whitney's re-done home theater system. He rarely uses a center channel, so he put most of his money into buying nice front speakers. He bought Canton front floor standing speakers. He wanted a decent center at a low price. So he bought a JBL S-CENTERII, and hooked it into his aging yet amazing Yamaha RX-V995 receiver. So, what did he get out of it? Let's find out!
-Price-
*This is the greatest part of the JBL S-CENTERII. JBL is one of the greatest speaker companies in the world. They have been making quality speakers for decades, and they still do. The JBL S-CENTERII is part of the Studio Series, which is higher end than their their other Northridge (N) series speakers. The JBL S-CENTERII can be purchased for as little as $159 online, which is absolutely incredible. Over other centers, it feautres four drivers. It's a 3-Way design. Which means that it has a seperate midrange speaker which makes a great deal of difference in the sound. The JBL S-CENTERII definitely out-performs most other centers in this price range. Try it out for yourself, and you'll understand. Plus, it's JBL, and their speakers are simply superb quality.
-Overall Construction-
*The JBL S-CENTERII is a very solid speaker. JBLs last a life-time. I know of people who use very old JBL speakers in their home theaters and stereos, and they couldn't be any happier. The JBL S-CENTERII is no exception from the JBL quality that you'd expect. The JBL S-CENTERII has drivers that are built out of very high quality materials. You won't find poor paper drivers in the JBL S-CENTERII like you would in Bose speakers, namely their center. The JBL S-CENTERII features four drivers. It has a 1" titanium dome tweeter, a 4" midrange driver, and two 5.25" midbass woofers. Most other cheaper centers only offer a tweeter and midbass woofers, while the JBL S-CENTERII offers a midrange driver that makes a great deal of difference in sound. Overall, the construction quality on the JBL S-CENTERII is great.
-Overall Performance-
*Orgasmic sound... Yes, that midrange really shines. When you think about it, a lot of the vocals is focused in the midrange. So therefore, the JBL S-CENTERII has a midrange driver that really adds more liveliness and warmth to vocals. The sound on the JBL S-CENTERII is very clear and smooth. It handles vocals very well. It handles it better than just about any other center channel speaker that you can find for around $200. The 1" titanium tweeter gives it very crisp highs. Other tweeters built of poorer quality materials give worser sounding high notes, they can get annoying. The JBL S-CENTERII also handles bass quite nicely, even though center channels really aren't supposed to handle bass. You should leave that up to a subwoofer or the front speakers to do. The JBL S-CENTERII will give you that great quality sound that you expect from JBL. But most importantly, it handles its job very well. The vocals that come from the JBL S-CENTERII are very clean and realistic. It goes "beyond the speaker". The vocals are very life-like. You'll be amazed by the quality of sound!
-The Verdict-
*I can easily say that the JBL S-CENTERII is one speaker that you just can't go wrong with! For only $159, I nearly wet my pants, not literally. It outperforms just about anything that you can throw at it within a $200 price range. JBL has always been known for building superb quality speakers, and the JBL S-CENTERII shows why. You should listen to one, and I'm pretty sure that you'll carry it home. And then listen to the movies... oh the movies! Boy do they really come to life!
