Pros: Simple to use, Detachable Face, Clear sound.
Cons: No Line-In, Ejecting mechanism not durable.
The Bottom Line: The JVC KD-S680 could be a great choice as an entry-level cd player. Otherwise, spend a little more and get a nice deck with more features.

| mole2000's Full Review: JVC KD-S680 Car CD Player |
OK, I actually got my JVC CD Player, because the CD Player I first bought (AIWA CDC-X427) broke within a week and had already quit playing CD's ! So when I took it back the dealer suggested I go with this JVC, which would be more reliable and supposedly was a great deal. Turns out the prices on this deck have dropped to about $100 now, so it's a pretty cheap/affordable deck.
It's been about 3 to 4 months now, and the JVC deck still works but is already having problems ejecting the CD's. It does this thing where it will spit the CD halfway out, and then it gets stuck. Unless I grab the CD and pull it out within seconds, it pulls it right back in. This is a small annoyance and as long as the deck still works I'm not overly concerned with it.
Now I put the deck into my '00 Dodge Dakota Ext Cab with factory speakers. Without any additions the performance definitely wasn't impressive. I added a Bazooka (EL-10A-HP) and this helped fill what my system was lacking, by adding bass and providing a fuller sound.
The controls on the S680 are basic and straight-forward. A monkey could figure them out, so this is great for those of you who don't want to have to read a manual to operate your stereo. The hardest thing to figure is how to set the time, and that's not even very hard.
It's been a few months since I installed it, but if I recall correctly there were no "pre-outs" on this deck...which could be a downside depending on what you plan on doing with your system. Oh, one other thing...it came with a wireless IR remote. Now that seems nice and all, but what in the world for ??? Am I going to use the remote when I'm sitting 2 feet from the deck anyway ?? I'm at a loss at to this part of the stereo....
Overall, the JVC has given me many hours of great music, but if I were to do over...I would probably have put in a little more $$ to get a deck with more features (mp3,line-in, etc).
