| Darkmistress's Full Review: Jergens Naturally Smooth Shave Minimizing Moisturi... |
I detest shaving my legs. Absolutely hate it. It probably stems from an incident in the early day of my shaving when I ripped a 4-inch strip off my shin. It was ugly. It was painful. It almost made me swear off shaving forever. Vanity won over fear, but I never got to be very good or very consistent about it. When I decided to head to Korea to teach English I knew I would need to shave my legs somewhat more often. Women in Korean gleefully wear skirts as long as the weather holds and without stockings which would cover a multitude of missed spots. I can get away with dressing funny because Im a Westerner, but I like to look like a girl sometimes too. I had experimented with Jergens Shave Minimizing Lotion when it first came on the market, but was essentially too lazy to keep up with it. Korea supplied me with the perfect opportunity to really test.
The lotion is an odd tan color and it very thick. I keep the bottle upside down so that I dont have to spend 5 minutes banging it into my palm to get the lotion out. The top is flat enough that it will sit that way easily. Sadly, my husband turns it over every time he sees it because he thinks its a mistake, no matter how often I tell him I do it on purpose. Senility isnt going to be a big change for us. The design of the bottle is pretty basic and not especially difficult to handle.
The instructions say to apply daily. I have better things to do with my time than put lotion on my legs daily so I do it every couple of days when I remember. It soaks in fairly quickly and doesnt leave a greasy feeling, though I do have to give my legs a few minutes to dry. Ive also noticed that if I shower within about 12 hours of application I can feel it washing off. Otherwise it makes my skin feel softer and less dry than normal as well as looking less, um, old.
It does seem to work, within reason. I know, the commercials claim that youll never have to shave again and I suppose if I applied obsessively I might not have to ever put razor to skin again. As it stands I have to shave about half as often. The hair has not become all that much finer to my eye, but its growing slower. I have noticed more ingrown hairs on my legs since I started using this a little more religiously. They arent horrible looking, but they can be red and irritating.
I like it. It reduces the number of times I have to shave and thereby reduces the number of times I rip holes in my legs. I can cope with the occasional ingrown hair. If you dont enjoy shaving your legs (tell me, does anybody enjoy shaving their legs?) you might want to look into this stuff.
