Pros: Smooth riding, ease of steering, relatively quiet, positive speed control with pedals.
Cons: Fuel level not easy to view, especially if using bagger.
The Bottom Line: Highly recommend. Agile and ease of operation. Relatively smooth ride.

We have had our LX255 for two years now. We use it in conjunction with a sears lawn tractor the same size but stick shift, to mow about three acres. I use the LX255 when mowing by myself but my wife and teenage kids use it when running the lawn tractors in tandem. You can guess who gets the sears. We are very pleased with the John Deere.
1) One of the features that work well is the adjustable seat. It is easy for my wife or kids to adjust the seat to where they have no problem reaching the pedals or steering.
2) Steering feel almost like power steering and has no problem mowing around lawn objects.
3) I can maintain positive control of speed with the foot pedal. The more I push down the faster the speed, when I let up on the pedal it stops. Going from fwd to reverse is just as easy by pushing on the reverse pedal.
4) Removing and replacing the deck to get to the blades or belts require no tools and is a relatively simple process compared to some mowers.
5) I wish the fuel level were easier to see. It doesn't use a gas gage. The tank is transparent. You must get off the mower, kneel down at the rear of lawn tractor and look up to see the gas tank to determine level. The problem is aggravated when we use its bagger. Its cousin, Scott Brand, corrected this by placing viewing portals in the front of finder.
6) With the emphasis on routine maintenance at regular intervals, clocks are a must. I feel it should have been outfitted with one as standard equipment. The proof meter was extra, not std. equipment.
Overall, I am very happy with the LX255 but if I had it to do over again with as much to mow, I would go with a John Deere that has a bigger deck and larger motor.
