Pros: It's small, lightweight, easy to use, and good for taking basic photos.
Cons: Very bright flash, digital zoom compromises picture quality, occasional white spots in photos.
The Bottom Line: If you are looking for a basic, starter digital camera, like for taking eBay photos, then this camera will work for you. Photos come out clear unless you use zoom.
austsmom's Full Review: Kodak EasyShare C315 / C530 / CD50 Digital Camera
I purchased this camera at Target's After Thanksgiving special for $89. Everyone I knew that owned a Kodak EasyShare sang praises about them, so I figured I couldn't go wrong with a deal like this one. I tried finding reviews online before opening the box, but apparently the camera was so new that none had been written. The model wasn't even listed anywhere on the internet. I decided to take the plunge and try it out at Christmas-time. I noticed right away after first use that the flash was extremely bright. It's nearly impossible to take pictures of people with their eyes open unless you're standing a descent distance away from them. I also found that if you stand too far away, the end picture doesn't seem to capture the "specialness" of the subject. It's like it lacks something or the subject simply seems to be too small in comparison to the background. You can use the digital zoom to avoid this problem, but then photo quality upon printing always turns out a bit blurry. Cameras with optical zoom work better, from what I read.
It's a good, basic camera for taking eBay photos, but I don't recommend it for capturing important memories. Especially if it's a situation where you'll be sitting further away from your subject like at a concert or soccer game. I have to say I prefer my old manual Pentax camera over the Easyshare C315 for focusing without compromising quality. Occasionally, I also get white spots floating in my pictures with the C315. I'm not sure what causes that or even if it has anything to do with the camera.
The software installs quickly, easily, and doesn't take long to learn. I also found printing pictures to be a snap, even though I don't have the EasyShare dock. Be sure to get a memory card as well, because the camera's internal memory will only hold about 12 pics at 5.0 megapixels. Battery power wears down faster when reviewing pictures and loading them onto the computer. I haven't tried the email function, but I'm assuming that eats up power as well. This camera comes with two, AA digital camera batteries.
