About Koho 460 Goal Skates
Koho is one of the top goalie skate makers. I skated in Kohos for a number of years before switching to Grafs. The 460 is an intermediate level goal skate. It would be a good skate for all levels of recreational league play. I would NOT recommend this skate for most elite level goalies as they simply don’t have the stiffness level required. Smaller goalies (less than 160 pounds) would be able to use this skate at any level of play.
This is still one of the best looking skates on the market in my opinion. The boots in this model are a very stiff ballistic nylon with composite leather. They are a fairly long lasting, and supportive upper. The blades are carbon steel like you would find on every other brand of current goal skate.
The cowlings on this skate are top notch, the exact same cowlings as Koho uses on the more expensive 560 Titanium Skates. The toes on Kohos cowlings are very beefy. They will stop all but the very hardest of shots painlessly. Just by comparing them to other brands you can see they are a bit bigger. It seems like the steel in Koho’s cowlings tends to bend a little more often than in other brands. This won’t be a major issue as long as you go to a competent tech to have them sharpened. You might want to ask them to check each time just to be sure. Also, the steel in all goalie skates bends. It is just part of taking a hard shot off the steel.
I would recommend this skate to for intermediate and upper intermediate level goalies. They would best fit players with wide feet, especially those who have had comfort issues with other. The standard width Kohos are among the widest skates on the market. Their EE width IS the widest skate available. Obviously If you have narrow feet, you will be swimming in these and should look at a narrow skate. The Kohos are very comfortable right out of the box. In the long run I actually found that they were a little too wide for me. As I wore them and they were broken in, they felt a little sloppy on my feet. Of course fit is the most important factor when buying a pair of skates. No one skate could possibly fit everyone well.

Koho is of course, owned by The Hockey Company, a conglomerate of CCM, Koho, Jofa, Heaton and a number of smaller brands that no one really talks about these days. Needless to say, they have a fair amount of expertise in building a skate. CCM was the first company to offer a decent hockey skate and is the oldest skate manufacturer in the country.
