| xadrian's Full Review: LEGO Star Wars Episode III Jedi Starfighter and Vu... |
Straight to it, the is one of the better mid-sized sets. For the price, playability, modeling, piece count, piece type, design and size, it's among the better sets. For $20 it's a good buy for kids birthdays or even just on a lark at your local megalomart.
I'm pretty picky when it comes to Star Wars Lego sets. Most of the newer movie sets have been disappointments with their flat bottoms and shaky construction, but this one is pretty tight. It's no A-Wing or Jedi Starfighter, but it's right up there.
My major complaint about this whole set is the instructions. To me, if you're going to have a set that has gray, dark gray and black pieces, does it make sense to put them on a dark paper? Maybe it's my old eyes getting to me but I was positive I was mixing up 1x2 vent pieces all over the place.
Second complaint is the stickers. I don't get why part of the set has things preprinted, but some you have to have stickers. Some of those are hard to line up, and they don't make mention of it in the instructions. So at the end, if you haven't been paying attention, your little ship looks nothing like the one on the box.
Other than that, it's a solid set. Nothing to complain about. You get a Vulture Droid with it as well, the newer version of the first movie's Droid Fighter. Difference this time is the color and the way it moves. I'm still not terribly happy that in order for it to "transform" you have to take a chunk off and reattach it elsewhere instead of just move in on a hinge or axle.
But that's me being picky.
This is a good set for little hands, but not too little that they choke on the small pieces. This is, after all, an above 7 year old set, as are most if not all non-Duplo Lego. For you modelers, it's got a few quirks and some parts I'd redo (the cockpit dish in front doesn't seem to stay on really well) but the wing construction is pretty good and the hull is nice.
