| cmaw63's Full Review: Lush Hard Shampoo |
During a visit to Chicago I stopped at the Watertower's LUSH store, located in a corner of Macey's. I bought a 1.9 oz. Hard Shampoo for $8.95 + tax. It is a pink, hockey puck sized solid shampoo. (A solid shampoo is like a bar of soap, but made with shampoo.)
Hard Shampoo
If you live in an area with hard water use this shampoo bar to get your hair clean, shiny and easy to manage. We've added cocoa butter and macadamia nut oil to soften your hair as you wash.
My well water is hard and doesn't allow for my shampoo to lather up and give me a luxurious, full bodied clean hair feeling. That led me to choosing Hard Shampoo to try. Does it do what LUSH claims?
I rubbed the bar of shampoo in a few circles across my wet hair. I then started scrubbing...nothing. I rinsed and tried again. This time I made 5 circles with the shampoo through my hair. Wow...lather, lather and more lather. I was amazed by the amount of bubbles Hard Shampoo had made. I was impressed.
Then I became disillusioned. It was suppose to soften my hair while I shampooed. Instead, if I had colored my hair blond I could have bundled it up and sold it for straw. I re-wet my hair and sprayed a leave in conditioner on... my hair was still dry and felt awful. Back into the shower I went to use my old faithful shampoo and conditioner by Redken.
LUSH Hard Shampoo needs to be kept dry and away from water unless you're using it. Keeping it in the bathroom, where the humidity can get high, is not advisable unless you have a lidded container for it. If it isn't dried and put away it can (and will) dissolve. If I had liked this shampoo, keeping it away from the shower would have just been a minor inconvenience... now it's just one more aggravation.
The scent was neither good nor bad. It just wasn't as flowery smelling as I thought it would be from the ingredients. It is a nondescript smell that quickly dissipates.
I will use LUSH Hard Shampoo again as long as:
1) My regular shampoo is gone.
2) I have a great conditioner to apply afterwards.
3) Someone threatens me harm if I don't.
To me, the concept of a solid shampoo is a good one. Too bad the reality of LUSH Hard Shampoo is dry, straw like hair. 2 stars for the lather, with the wish I could have given it 5.
