My wife was a Boston college student and she loved her trips to the North End to go to La Famiglia to get lots and lots of tasty food.
Well, we just went there for my wife's fifth reunion and we were in for a surprise. She told me about how busy it used to be and how the huge quantities made up for the wait. Well, it was pretty empty on a Tuesday night; no wait for a table of 8. The spicy calabrese sausage pasta that I got was indeed huge but surprisingly flavorless. I was expecting spicy and flavorful, but got the opposite. I dumped chile flakes on but it didn't quite wake up the dish. My wife was equally disappointed with her pasta dish that was soggy and limp.
The portions can be toned down with their newer smaller dish options.
I don't know if we grew up or this place got worse; we weren't impressed.
