The quote in the title is by Dante Alighieri
Background:
A couple years ago when my hubby and I moved into our current apartment, we decided to have a housewarming party. It was summer and hot outside. We had two air-conditioners, but they only fit in the front windows (windows slide open from side-to-side). We went to Target to find an oscillating fan to blow the cool air of the air-conditioner into the other rooms.
At Target, the only fans left were Lasko Tower Fans 2515. The price was only $19.99 so we decided to get two of them.
About Lasko:
The Lasko Company has been around over 100 years. Model 2515, along with other fans and other products can be found on their website at: http://laskoproducts.com/index.html
About Tower Fan 2515:
The Lasko Fan, model 2515, is attractive in color and style. It is a tower fan measuring 3 feet 4 inches tall. It is made of hard plastic, which is platinum in color with a black color grill front. The front is rounded and six inches wide; small enough to fit in the tightest spots. This fan is very pleasing to the eye, appearing curvy and smooth.
The fan comes with a long cord about 4 feet in length. It also comes with a remote control. Features can be controlled by pressing silver colored buttons at the top of the fan or by using the remote control. When the remote is not in use, it tucks away inside the back of the fan. Remote uses two AAA batteries (included).
This fan has three quiet speed settings, along with choice of wind setting including: Continuous, Natural Breeze, or Soothing Sleep. This means the fan can either be set to normal low, medium, high settings, or one of these speed settings plus a wind setting that blows wind in intervals. The fan is capable of oscillating and covers about 90 degrees. Oscillation can be stopped at any position. This fan also comes with a sleep timer, allowing the user to program shut-off after a half-hour to seven-and-a-half-hours (at any 1/2 hour interval).
Assembly:
Bringing the fans home from the store, I was eager to get them on and get the place cooling down before guests arrive. Unfortunately, pulling the fan from the box, I noticed it needed a little assembly.
This fan needs some assembly out of the box, but once you put it together your good to go. If memory serves me, I laid the fan on its side on the floor, took two stand halves and snapped them together along with the two halves of the base. Screws secure the base and the stand in place and the fan sits on top of these. The plug goes through the stand. Set-up was quick, but the fan can feel a little heavy while doing this.
Experience:
We placed one fan in the hallway to move air between the kitchen/dinning room/office area to the living room and placed the other fan sat in the living room. Within a half-hour there was a noticeable difference. In fact, because the kitchen/dinning room/office area had only the air-conditioners, while the living room had these two fans and the air it was receiving from the air conditioners, the living room actually felt cooler. One of our guests asked to turn one of the fans off because it was so cold.
The fans are also super quiet at low and medium settings and only a mild annoyance at high. We did not miss one word any of our guests said to us that night, despite having both fans on medium.
We have now been using these fans for almost two years. While they didnt feel the lightest during assembly, they are pretty light to move around once assembled. There is a dip in the back of the fan, which acts like a handle and makes the fans easy to lift and move from one place to the other.
It also seems like they fit everywhere. Weve put them between close together dressers. Weve left them in the middle of the hallway, without fear of tripping into them. Weve stored them in our closet and behind the kitty-corner television stand. When my hubby washes the bathroom floor he sets one of these fans right on the toilet lid to dry the floor. If you dont have much space these are a lifesaver.
The fans continue to be quiet even after 2 years of use and rough housing them. We can watch television, listen to music, and talk on the phone without having to turn up the volume on any of the three. The fan never distracts us while we are reading or sleeping. It really is as quiet as a whisper.
Also, unlike fans that blow around hot air, the air produced by this fan actually feels cool as if it is making cooler air. It is a fresh, relaxing breeze. We have recommended this model to friends and family that dont have air-conditioners in their bedrooms and all have enjoyed them. I could name 10 other people I know that have this fan, thats how good it is.
Other things I Like:
- Having a remote control to shut it off in the middle of the night
- Having a place for the remote control so I dont lose it when stored in the winter
- The sleep timer has such a wide-range of time settings and you can see how long is left on the sleep timer (in 30 min intervals).
- On/off button of fan is round and in center of remote and center of top of fan so it is easy to find at night.
Some things I Dont Like:
- When I wake up at night it is hard to tell which button on the remote is for changing speeds on the fan. Often I end up starting the sleep timer or changing the wind setting instead of the speed. All the buttons feel alike in the dark.
- The buttons are pictured not labeled with words; this was very frustrating for my grandmother who also owned one of these. We had to put masking tape with words on it so she would get it right. The two buttons that give confusion are the fan speed and the wind setting.
- I dont care for the different wind settings. Besides the normal setting I can choose Natural Breeze, or Soothing Sleep. I cannot tell you which one is which. The first seems to blow air for a couple seconds then not, then blow it again and back and forth. The second does the same thing, but in longer intervals. I find the constant on and off distracting even when I am preoccupied with my favorite television show or sleep. We do not use these settings.
Overall:
I highly recommend the Lasko Fan Model 2515. It is quiet and stays out of the way, but offers a cool breeze with a variety of settings. I have owned numerous box fans, window fans, oscillating fans, etc., but the two Lasko 2515 I have are the best Ive owned yet. They have survived 2 years, with a lot of pulling the cord, falling over, dealing with storage, etc. and yet they are still dependable and sure to last many more years. Also, the only cleaning theyve needed is an occasional wipe down of the grill with a warm soapy cloth.
