| kimbiemeister's Full Review: Lee Middleton First Born Doll - Awake Girl |
Will you hold your baby?
Will you sing to your baby?
Will you read to your baby?
Those are just a few of the questions my daughters had to answer before adopting their Lee Middleton dolls.
Place of Adoption
The adoption took place at My Mother's Doll Shop in Zionsville, IN. There are quite a few doll shops around the country that have the Lee Middleton Newborn Nurseries. From my understanding, they all have the special adoptions that we were so happy to experience.
My daughters are 5 and 6 and they had been asking for a Lee Middleton doll for quite some time. We decided they could use their birthday money to adopt their dolls.
When we entered the doll shop, we were immediately drawn to a large window. Behind the window were bassinets filled with dolls. It looked exactly like a hospital nursery. The owner of the doll shop greeted us wearing scrubs and introduced herself as Nurse Susan.
Beginning the Adoption Process
Nurse Susan gave the girls a questionnaire to fill out about being parents. The above questions were included on the questionnaire. The girls then signed it and the nurse called the adoption center to see if they were approved to be parents. Once Nurse Susan got the thumbs up, we were taken into the nursery.
Before entering the nursery, we all put on hospital gowns. There were little ones for my daughters and an adult-sized one for me. Nurse Susan had the girls and I clean our hands with antibacterial hand gel. Then we were ready to hold the babies. My daughters took turns holding each of the dolls. Some of the dolls were blond, some had brown or red hair. Their eyes were brown, blue, or green. The dolls with the open mouths can suck their thumbs or take a pacifier. They even had a preemie that was a little smaller than the others. All of the dolls had soft bodies with molded plastic heads, arms, and legs.
Decision time!
This was not an easy decision to make. My 6-year-old finally chose a Lee Middleton First Born Doll - Awake Girl. The adorable baby has blond hair and green eyes. My daughter named her baby Emma. Nurse Susan gave Baby Emma a complete checkup. She listened to Emma's heart, weighed her on a real baby scale (3 lbs, 6 oz), and measured her length (19 inches).
My 5-year-old chose the preemie and named her Windy. Baby Windy weighed in at 2 lbs, 8 oz and was 15 inches long.
Getting Ready to Take the Babies Homes
Nurse Susan gave the girls a crash course in parenting and told them to how to take good care of their babies. She showed them how to brush their hair and pick them up - never by the arms.
The girls and I each signed the adoption papers. Nurse Susan took pictures of each of the girls with their babies. We were then ready to take the babies to their new home!
What fun!
The whole adoption process was a lot of fun. I would recommend it for any little girls who love dolls. It makes the dolls more special than ones you can just buy off the shelf at a department store.
The dolls are about $80 each which is quite expensive, but these are dolls my daughters will save and hopefully pass on to their little girls someday.
My daughters have taken very good care of their babies since we brought them home. They took the adoption pledge to heart!
