lorimartinez's Full Review: LEGO Star Wars Episode III: General Grievous Starf...
My eight year old son is very interested in Star Wars, and was thrilled to receive this starfighter at Christmas from his big brother.
This set is a part of the Star Wars 30th Anniversary celebration. It contains 232 pieces and is geared to ages 7 - 12. Features include a sliding cockpit, folding tail landing gear, lightsaber holder and flip-up laser cannons. The set includes one General Grievous minifigure with blaster and 4 lightsabers. Another feature is that you can store the landing gear and lightsabers underneath the craft for flight.
My 8 year old required minimal help assembling the starfighter. The toy, when assembled, looks cool and apparently closely resembles its movie counterpart.
The problem with this toy is that after it is assembled it is nearly impossible to play with in any sort of fun way. My son was reduced to tears when, after spending some time putting it together, the toy fell apart as soon as he picked it up. My husband helped him put the fallen pieces back on - thinking perhaps my son hadn't pushed the pieces on firmly enough. Andrew picked the toy up again and the same thing happened. After having the ship fall apart three or four times, Andrew gave up and put the toy on the shelf.
He has played with the toy a few times since, and every time he's had to stop and assembly whatever falls off every few minutes. General Grievous would definitely be spending a lot of time in the shop with this starfighter.
The detail on the toy is nice - the sliding cockpit is definitely very cool and the General Grievous figure with his various weapons is also nice. To me, and more importantly to Andrew, it isn't worth playing with the starfighter if it will fall apart every time. This toy is really more of a display piece. The same is true of the other set my son received, the TIE interceptor, about which I shall also write.
