| Lisa_J's Full Review: Lil' BRATZ Funky Fashion Furnishings Loungin' Loft... |
Do you ever purchase all of the accessories for a toy set, hoping for excellent play value, yet discover you should have stuck with the main set and avoided the extra expense? That would explain our experience with the Lil' BRATZ Funky Fashion Furnishings Loungin' Loft Livin' Room set.
Lil' BRATZ are 4 ½" miniature versions of the traditional 10" BRATZ dolls. My youngest daughter, 9, enjoys playing with both doll lines. She was excited when the Loungin' Loft, a home of sorts for the Lil BRATZ, debuted. The set reminded me slightly of a colorform type of play set, because of the vinyl cling stickers. It also, in my view, resembled a modern day paper doll set, because of the 'needs assembly' furniture. Marisa enjoyed the doll house a lot, and I made certain to purchase the three accessory kits.
The Loungin' Loft Livin' Room claims, on the box, to include 8 furniture pieces and 4 funky fabrics, allowing your child to "Create over 25 Fashion Furnishings!" It is my opinion that MGA Entertainment falsely represents this product, because I don't calculate 8 furniture pieces nor 4 funky fabrics (perhaps beads are fabric).
You actually receive materials to construct:
- Couch
The couch is created by folding a precut/precreased, translucent pink plastic sheet, and tucking in a few tabs. This may require adult assistance, as it is a little tricky to assemble. Unfortunately the unit doesn't like to stay assembled, so be prepared to tape, for longevity.
- Lounge Chair
This chair is created by folding a precut, translucent plastic sheet, and tucking in a few tabs. For completion two coated cardboard pieces are inserted into precut grooves: a sideboard and a headboard. This chair is one of the better pieces in this set, as it stays assembled. Also, the Lil BRATZ don't tip it over.
- Bamboo Circle Chair
This chair is created by folding two precut coated cardboard pieces: one circle like shape that serves as the seat and another piece that serves as the base. The cardboard pieces have different designs on both sides, which is supposed to add to the design options. What a joke this chair is! It will not stay assembled without taping, therefore rendering the 'reverse' option useless. Further... the Lil' BRATZ cannot sit in it without tipping it over.
- Footrest
The footrest is created by folding one rectangle, translucent pink plastic sheet at two prefold creases. The bottom portions have a half-star cutout. This piece is pretty much useless, as it collapses with every attempt to use it.
- Lamp
There are three pieces: a 5" rod, a base, and a lampshade. They fit together to create a stand-up lamp. All of these pieces are flimsy, yet will last if your child plays very carefully.
Additionally you receive:
- Door Beads
These beads have five strands of translucent yellow and purple beads, which hang from an adhesive strip. My daughter likes these and has positioned them into a room of the Loft, in addition to the set that was included with initial purchase of the Loft.
- Three Pillows
A primary like of this set, my child really likes these pillows. However the adoration for them is not enough for me to extend a recommendation for this set, as the Loft included two pillows. As mentioned this Livin' Room set includes three pillows: purple, pink and a leopard print.
Although there are portions of this set that my child uses during Lil' BRATZ play sessions, I cannot recommend this set for purchase. Rather than spend the approximate $6.00 on the Livin' Room set, I suggest purchasing the $19.99 Loungin' Loft. This line of toys will be most appreciated by children that are Lil' BRATZ enthusiasts, or children that like arts and crafts type of doll play. Please note that none of sets include Lil' BRATZ dolls, so an additional purchase will be required. This furnishings set is recommended for children 4+. Personally I feel the recommended age span should be 6-9, due to assembly requirements and patience needed to endure this type of play session.
