| ctinhan's Full Review: Little Tikes Play House |
My brother purchased the Little Tikes Play House for my daughter's first birthday. The recommended age group for this play house is 18 months to 4 years of age. For this reason we waited until she was 18 months old to set it up and at that point, we put it in the corner of our living room for her to enjoy it. From day one, my daughter loved playing inside of this house. She has spent many hours inside of it having tea parties, picnics and playing grocery store.
The entire house is made of molded plastic that is durable and colorful. I like that the corners and edges of the house are smooth and rounded, there are no sharp points that could harm my daughter.
The detailing on the house is very realistic with its textured roof resembling shingles, a chimney that looks like brick, and the house itself, looking like it has been sided.
For entry into the house, there is a bright yellow half door that opens easily, even for the smallest hands. The door is attached sturdily to the house and has supported my daughter well as she's leaned on it peering out.
On two sides of the house there are windows that have bright red shutters. The shutters which open out only, each have a half circle shape cut out in the molded plastic to make opening and closing them easy for a child. This also helps for a child to not get the fingers pinched while opening and closing the shutters.
Against the back wall is a bright red table that folds down for your child to have pretend meals at with their little friends. The table is made of the same durable plastic as the rest of the house and can be washed down easily. I have also had to scrub crayon off of the table with a little effort and it has never marred the coloring.
I did notice that when the table is folded down for use the inside space is dramatically cut down for walking around. However, there is enough room still to fit one or two of her Little Tike chairs inside with her. When my daughter is done with the table she can easily fold it herself.
There is also a bright yellow play phone and holder attached to the back wall. The phone has buttons that can be pressed down for realistic dialing. My daughter loves to pretend to be talking to her friend on the phone while looking out her door or a window.
The house is 44 inches in length, has a width of 41 inches and is 46 inches in height. While this house is one of the smaller Little Tike houses, there is still plenty of room for your child to have fun with it. At times my daughter will put her Little Tikes stove and refrigerator inside of it to play house with her little friends. The interior is also roomy enough for my husband or I to play with our daughter when there are no extra toys inside of it.
Assembly of the house was quite easy for my husband to complete in less than 45 minutes. The molded plastic pieces are made to snap together. For added stability, there are some large bolts that attach the roof pieces together and then in turn attach to the house.
A nice feature of the Little Tikes Play House is that you can easily hose it down whenever it needs to be. This is great for the child who likes to make mud pies inside and then decorate the walls with it.
We have had this house for three years now, with the last two years having housed it outside and it has still stayed the same bright colors it was when my daughter received it. It has held up well over the time span and I know it will still be here for our second child to enjoy it as much as our daughter did.
