Little Tikes Tot Sports Bowling Set is intended for children 24 months and up. As an early childhood educator it has been my experience that older Toddlers and young Preschoolers enjoy indoor playtime with this set. It is my observation that children 24 months thru 42 months of age are most appreciative of the set. Older preschoolers/pre-k kids tend to become quickly bored with this set and begin using the pins for unintended purposes. Sets such as this are especially appreciated during inclement weather, when outside play sessions are limited.
This durable set includes seven pieces: a ball and six pins. All of the pieces in this set are constructed of plastic. The six pins are transparent, and they have three small colorful balls inside. These smaller balls clang together and against the sides of the pins, making fun noises that Toddlers tend to appreciate. The blue ball has indentations, intended to depict bowling ball holes. While these indentations are likely intended for grasping, it is my observation that children most often use two hands to hold/control the ball. This set is best used on smooth floors, allowing the ball an easier travel path.
The Little Tikes Tot Sports Bowling Set retails for approximately $20, but can be purchased second-hand for much less. The pins and ball in this set are very durable. After numerous play sessions, all pieces of the Little Tikes Tot Sports Bowling Set remain in good condition. This set has also withstood multitudes of cleaning. It is easy to clean the pins and ball.
This beginning bowling set continues to be enjoyed by the students in our Toddler room. They take turns setting up the pins and knocking them down, either with the ball or their feet and/or hands. Sets such as this are good for strengthening motor skills. During some of the play sessions, I put circle stickers (not included with the set) on the vinyl flooring, encouraging the kids to place the pins onto them. Depending on the child, sometimes I set up the pins. All participants adore knocking over the pins!
Overall I am pleased with this set and recommend it for purchase.
It is fun to watch the younger children enjoying play sessions with this set. Set up, knock down, set up, and knock down, over and over again! The pins clang together, yet remain durable. Even when the young participants use the pins in unintended ways (think bats!), they remain intact. I adore sets that allow kids to be rough with the pieces and I am especially appreciative that no batteries are required! I occasionally add to the play intensity by narrating or encouraging the young participants to count how many pins are knocked down. While this set isnt a must have, as you can make your own set with empty plastic soda bottles and any ball, I really appreciate the Little Tikes durability for child care environments!
