| countrygyrl's Full Review: Loreal Color Vive Gentle Shampoo for Color Treated... |
I have used countless brands of shampoo looking for the "perfect" one. I don't really know if that perfect shampoo exists but this one is pretty darn close.
L'oreal Color Vive shampoo is not a new brand but in recent years the packaging and scent has been updated. The formula stayed the same, to my knowledge, (if it ain't broke don't fix it) but I'm so glad the scent has changed. I always liked this shampoo but could not get past the overly strong flower/powder scent it used to have.
L'oreal Color Vive comes in a rounded, pearly/cream colored 13 oz. plastic, flip top bottle with dark red accents. The Color Vive line has to "flavors" Regular and Dry. The bottles are identical. The only difference between the two is that the word "Regular" or "Dry" is printed near the bottom of the bottle. It is easy to grab the wrong one and there is a real difference in performance of the two ( I know, I grabbed the "Dry" version once by mistake). So, make sure you pick up the right one.
L'oreal Color Vive goes for around $3.00 a bottle. I have seen it as low as $2.50 at stores like Walmart to around $3.29 at the grocery, even more at the drugstore.
Many times L'oreal has a buy a shampoo get a conditioner free double pack and thats when I tend to stock up. It's still worth every penny of its $3.00 bottle normal price though.
INGREDIENTS- water, sodium laureth sulfate, disodium cocamphodiactate, cocamide mipa, glycol disterate, sodium chloride, hexylene glycol, disodium ricinoleamido, mea-sulfosuccinate, fragrance, carbomer, disodium edta, methylparaben, polyquarternium -10, dmdm hydantion, benzophenone -3, ethylhexyl methoxycinnamate, benzyl salicylate, linalool, butylphenyl methylpropional, citronellol, geraniol,alpha-isomethylinone, hexyl cinnamal.
This shampoo has been recommended by Paula Begoun, time and time again, as a shampoo that is good for all hair types with a slight chance of build- up. I truly trust her recommendations and tend to only try products she recommends.
Color Vive is a pearly, white, creamy shampoo. It lathers very well, builds a nice light, but, rich feeling lather and rinses very easy, leaving hair feeling clean but not overly so.
The scent is fresh and light- there still maybe a hint of the old baby powder scent, but its not a heavy over perfumed scent, its pleasant and after continued use I don't even notice a scent at all.
After either blowdrying or airdrying my hair is left light feeling but smooth and soft and shiny. I feel I only need a "deep cleaning" shampoo maybe once ever 2 weeks when using this shampoo on a continued basis, only because I notice my hair is a little flatter, never because I get a "built up" heavy/ greasy feeling.
I don't believe any shampoo can truly help hair color last longer, however ANY gentle cleansing shampoo, L'oreal Color Vive included, will prevent premature color fade to some degree just like any shampoo with harsh cleansers will pull color out quicker.
I really do love this shampoo. I find myself coming back to it more an more no matter what I try. I actually used this shampoo exclusively all last summer- and thats saying a heck of alot considering I usually have at least 2-3 bottles of shampoo in my shower at any given time (I know, I know- I have a disease!) Color Vive may just be as close to perfect as I will ever get!
