Pros: 23 vitamins and minerals in 180 tasty calories.
Cons: A little too sweet and can leave an unpleasant aftertaste.
The Bottom Line: Great alternative to between meal snacking and for those who tend to skip meals. There are better flavors out there though.

So, a caramel topping using good for me ingredients with only 180 calories? I was set.
Well, I first noticed the smell. It did smell like caramel. It is an enticing smell that hits you the minute you open the wrapper. Not bad at all.
It looked good--like a granola bar with a light brown topping. Inviting. And the bar is a good size too. It's not too small at 1.69oz. It's the perfect size for eating on the run.
I took my first bite--moist, chewy--not bad but sweet. Very sweet. The texture is perfect-not dry like I would have expected based on past experience with other nutrition bars. Not at all like cardboard either. The Luna bar is crunchy and has a nice feel in your mouth. You can taste the caramel and it's not all that unpleasant. It does have a strong caramel flavor. You really can't tell it's a soy based bar---until you finish eating it. Then you get a slight unpleasant aftertaste. This aftertaste does disappear with a few gulps of water. And to be honest, the aftertaste is not unbearable and you do get used to it.
So, how does it work as a meal?
I've been very pleased. I'm satisfied after eating but not full. My hunger pains are gone and I have more energy. I am hungry after 2-2 1/2 hours but this isn't a full meal.
I think that these would be great afternoon snacks for those who crave something sweet but want to stay away from candy, cookies... This could be a somewhat expensive alternative but it is much healthier one.
