Is it fair to not love a diaper that doesn't leak? Should I be feeling guilty for not buying a diaper for these reasons alone?
Having a new 8 week old son, means you try a lot of diapers. Add I have to tell you, I really do not like Luvs Ultra Leakguards Stretch diapers, though I can't say that I am really being fair.
Let me tell you why ...
We started with Pampers newborn, but they kept leaking .. darn, I had wanted to use Pampers (not sure why, I just knew the "name" the best). Went to Huggies. Why? An aunt bought us a pack. We LOVE them (that's another review entirely). We got some other generic type Huggies-like diapers from family - they work ok, but they're not quite Huggies. I had a free coupon for a Luvs Ultra Leakguards Stretch jumbo pack, so off to Walmart I went. and brought them home.
I opened the package.
First mistake. Am I the only person who think these diapers have a weird smell ? It's like a baby powder-ish smell. If I wanted Colin to smell like powder, I'd put it on him.
Second. They are coated in this weird, soft but plastic-y material, not like the Huggies I was loving. They feel weird, and each time I pick them up I want to just touch them with 2 fingers so as to not come in close contact with them ... Do I want these then next to my baby's skin?
Third. They also have those plastic tabs, which I have come to loathe on these diapers and for an infant. Every time I take a diaper off, it sticks to his skin and he fusses while I try and gently peel it off. Plus the tabs rub on poor Colin's skin on the sides, so now I am having to put creme there to help with the irritation. I could get a size bigger so I'd have more room on the tabs, but then they'd be too big in the seat area.
Fourth. Ok, and Barney is dancing all over them. Why? He gets on my nerves. But can you tell me Why he is on the diaper??? I am sure it is some sort of contract they all made .... foolish. Who wants Barney all over their private area, the purple clearly showing through all of Colin's pastel and white onesies? Newborns don't give a care what's on their diapers, so you cannot tell me it's because baby's actually prefer the purple dinosaur on their most private parts ...
On the plus side, they have not leaked. Yes, this is good news. And you can clearly tell when Colin is wet because the diaper holds the urine away from him in the diaper in what feels like a solid block in the front. So if I push real lightly on the front I can easily tell by feel if he needs a changing.
But ...
they cost about the same as Huggies here, and all the reasons why I do not like this diaper, does not make it worth buying them again. If I can get the same leakage protection plus other benefits from Huggies, then why useLuvs Ultra Leakguards Stretch again? Not in this house ... Never again... Not for a newborn.
The size options are:
Size 1 = 8-14 pounds
Size 2 = 12-18 pounds
Size 3 = 16-28 pounds
Size 4 = 22-37 pounds
Size 5 = over 27 pounds
Size 6 = over 35 pounds
Though these diapers fit our son well and did even work well, I just couldn't get myself to keep buying them. Really, the only other time they were in our house was when someone brought us a pack and we had sense enough to use free diapers.
