Pros: Might be good for a hiker, off-road bicyclist or boater.
Cons: Not good for use on roads and highways. Support is no help at all.
The Bottom Line: Do not buy the Magellan Meridian Platinum if you want it for travel by streets and highways.

Magellan Meridian Platinum is not good for use on streets and highways. To use for road travel every point has to be plotted. There is no turn information. This means that even simple trips take a long time to plot because it has to be plotted waypoint to waypoint. Virtually every turn has to be defined by the user.
I have MapSend Streets and Destinations and Topo. Both pieces of software are expensive, slow and very user-unfriendly. Maps are mutually exclusive, which means you have a choice of street detail or topographical data, but not both. It is a waste of money to buy both map sets. For example, street and destination information is useful for traveling to Yosemite, but nearly useless for hiking. If the Topo is loaded it is good for hiking, but only has limited street information. My opinion is that it is nearly useless for road use, but might be good for hiking or boating.
In addition I have a 128 MB card, but I have learned that it can only upload four 16 MB regions, which leaves 64 MB of unusable memory. Don't buy the 128 MB card it can't be used.
The adapter cable is difficult to attach and the PC interface is very slow. It takes nearly an hour to upload four 16 MB map sections.
And last, but not least, Magellan documentation and technical support is very poor and nearly useless. It took nearly two weeks to get an answer to a question from technical support and the answer was to point me back to a frequently asked question, which I referred to in the message to support.
Bottom line, I have purchased what I thought was a top of the line GPS with lots of accessories and I am very sorry I purchased the Magellan Meridian Platinum.
