I had gone to the doctor because I was feeling depressed. The first thing the doctor did was run tests. I went back for another appointment after the results were in.
He said, I can see why you are depressed. Your Magnesium level is very low. I asked what does that have to do with me being depressed. He said, that Magnesium helps the body to deal with stress and other things that cause depression. When the Magnesium level is low, a person can not deal with stressors like someone who has a normal level. So, he put me on Magnesium.
I was pretty skeptical about taking just that for depression. I took it. Within 2 weeks time, I noticed that the things I was depressed about were not as bad as I had thought they were and that I was feeling much better.
I went back to the doctor and he checked my level again. He said that my level was coming up but that I needed to continue to take it and that I should modify my diet to include nuts and other foods that contained Magnesium. I did so.
You know what?! After I changed my diet and continued taking the supplement the doctor prescribed, I began to feel like myself again! I was no longer depressed!
I know now, as a student of natural medicine, that Magnesium is very important in combatting depression. Most people who are depressed have low levels or are depleted of Magnesium. I recommend to all of my clients who are depressed or under a great deal of stress to take it and modify their diets.
