brenda5008's Full Review: Mario Kart inc. wheel for Nintendo Wii
My son wanted the Mario Cart for his Wii as soon as he heard about its upcoming release. He already had the Game Cube version, so I didn't really see the point, but it was his birthday money so he bought it, and I purchased an additional wheel for him. These are our observations so far, and in the 6 weeks or so we've owned it, trust me, we've played far more than could possibly be healthy.
The Courses:
The courses are the Wii version look familiar to me, and there are initials next to each course confirm that. For example, it may say N64 SHY GUY BEACH, showing that the course originated from the Nintendo 64. I like that, because I love going back to old school games. Give me a break, I still own an Atari. Regardless, as you progress and win cups, more courses are unlocked, as well as more characters to race with.
The Wheel and Other Control Options:
I personally enjoy the Wii Wheel and prefer it, but the rest of my family doesn't care for it. It IS hard to get used to, and until you do, you may find yourself veering off the track, or falling off if that's the type of course you're on, but I enjoy it more than the regular controllers.
One of the best things about the Wii version are the variety of controllers you can use.
Classic Controller, Wii Wheel, Wii Remote, Nunchuck, and GameCube Controller. The Wii Remote must be used to play with the Nunchuck and Wii Wheel. These options give us so much variety and everybody ends up using the controller that works best for them. The Game Cube or Classic Controller are probably two of the easiest ones to race with.
The WFC:
This is where you race worldwide or with friends. We haven't raced world wide, but we have a couple that lives 30 miles away that we don't get to see as much as we'd like, and this has really connected us. We race almost every night, and my son has interacted with them more than ever before.
My Conclusion
The Mario Kart for Wii is quite simply, awesome.
Our family has had a BLAST together, we've spent a lot of time trying to beat each other. You may think this isn't quality family time, but with the Wii, you are rarely staring at the screen like a zombie. We laugh, talk "smack" jokingly, and my kids have learned an awful lot about how not to be a sore loser and to have good sportsmanship, because I never let them win, I want them to win all on their own. This seems merciful, but my son beats me every time.
