Pros: Nice big pool, Dukes next door great service food and drinks, location on East shore
Cons: Ongoing planned power outages without notifying customers, Previous parking lot and flood issues
The Bottom Line: Too many problems to keep going back. Service is what keeps customers coming back and it's just not there with the Kauai Marriott.

We loved the pool at the Marriott and that it has a Duke's next door, whose staff couldn't be friendlier. It also has a convenient location if you are okay with being near the airport. What we don't like is that they seem to continually have problems which includes the parking lot that had a sink hole and took years to fix, the flooding that affected the first floor rooms near the pool, which may be what contributes to the smell and in addition the planned power outages that they know about and don't notify their guests of prior to arrival. Instead they slip a note under your door that the power will be out for 3 nights for approximately 4 hours each night (1/2 the time you are in the room). This of course means no air conditioning or lighting, although they do have emergency lights. The service side by management is sorely lacking and our perception is that they aren't really interested in repeat business. Kauai is a beautiful island but the Marriott is no longer our choice for a hotel. We actually switched hotels and went to the Hyatt and it was beautiful. We will go back to Dukes for the great food and drinks and excellent service.
