| lawgirl's Full Review: Maybelline Cool Effects Cooling Cream Eyecolor |
Oops. I guess I somehow subconsciously rebelled against my recent 26th birthday and decided I needed to be six years old again. In furtherance of this delusion, I purchased Maybelline Cool Effect Cooling Cream Eyecolor. A big oops.
I purchased this eye color in Pretty Cool, an iridescent lavender and actually pretty color. It is definitely not conservative enough for everyday use on a 26 year old, but it is something fun for going out. It comes in a tiny little tube, only .28 oz., which instructs you to use your fingers to blot it on. This did not work for me. I actually somehow missed my eyelid and ended up gooping it onto my lashes, from which it would not come out! I ended up rubbing my fingers around my eye in a desperate attempt to get this stuff off and smeared it around my eyes. It is very greasy. I ended up taking Kleenex to wipe it off and try again. This time it went on, but it was very uneven. I had a very hard time getting an even coat on my eyelid. It goes on sparsely- I found I needed to put on a lot to get any color.
When I finally did get it on, it dried slowly. I ended up with damp eyelids for about 5 minutes, and I had not put too much on. This was a gross feeling! I usually use eyeliner on my top lid, and since this product was so greasy and did not dry fast, I ended up having to wait for it to dry and it slowed me down considerably. When I finally did get it on and dry, I found it creased very quickly. I had barely gotten in my car and on the way to work when I was rubbing my eyelid to try to get this stuff out of my eyelid crease.
This product does come in cool colors and does feel cool going on. Kind of like that feeling you get when you bite a peppermint and suck in. I did not care for this sensation on my eyelids.
Once I got the stuff on and dry, it did give my eyes a shimmery look. As I said, if I was in the 6-16 age category, I am sure I would be all over it. But for me it is good for fun or as a base coat. I found this product worked great if I used it as a base coat for my other eyeshadow. I have deep set eyes and my eyeshadow usually ends up rubbing off by lunch. This morning as I looked at this tube in my makeup kit and thought "gee I really don't want to dump that," it came to me to use it as a base. I dab just a little on and let it dry, then apply my normal eye shadow over it. This works great at making my normal eyeshadow last longer.
I would recommend this product as an eyeshadow base, or for kids that aren't quite as picky. But don't waste the $5 if you are just looking for something fun- the hassle is not worth it!
